Hari ini tuan tuan dan puan puan, adalah satu hari dari hari yang mungkin paling bersejarah untuk negeri Sarawak.

Isu Al-Kitab dan hak penganut Kristian untuk mengamalkan agama mereka akan menjadi satu isu penting yang bermain di kepala-kepala pengundi negeri kenyalang itu.

Ini akan menjadi satu masalah kepada kerajaan Barisan Nasional kerana 50% pengundi di Sarawak adalah penganut agama Kristian.

Tapi yang lebih penting lagi, adalah hak pengundi di Sarawak untuk memilih siapa saja untuk menjadi ahli undangan negeri mereka.

Dengan itu, mungkin pangkahan salib di atas kertas undi pilihanraya esok adalah lebih berkuasa dari salib-salib gereja seantero dunia untuk mengubah nasib penduduk-penduduk Sarawak.

Sekaligus, SiPM ingin mengingatkan pengundi-pengundi esok bahawa pangkahan salib esok adalah halal - lebih-lebih lagi di sebelah nama calon SiPM.

Sorry, we have been busy. Busy laughing at all that has been happening in Malaysia.

I mean, you can't make it up. There are days when Anwar Ibrahim is a Jewish agent and there are days when he isn't.

And there are days when an * is the tipping point for a letter to editor which inter alia, says

In fact the gross error in you previously uncorrected article can be construed as an effort to derail a very important Government initiative. Such effort to derail the Government efforts to foster national unity is not only unpatriotic but downright dangerous.
We fail to understand why you feel the need to undermine a crucial Government effort to create a harmonious and united Malaysia. A responsible and credible Media organisation is one that makes all effort to improve unity and harmony and are at all times focused on the improvement of society whereas you are clearly bent on sowing discord and disunity.

But the reply skipped that point.

And I thought that was unfair to a letter crafted with care and thought by the Deputy Prime Minister's press secretary.

And I thought perhaps, I can write better than the Editor of The Malaysian Insider.

To paraphrase him, herewith my letter.

Dear Dato Ainon Mohd, Press Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister,

Thank you for your faxed statement on this matter dated August 4, 2010. The Malaysian Insider would like to apologise for the reporting error in the said article that appeared on August 3, 2010.

As a matter of policy, we add an asterisk and note below an article when it has been corrected. However, we shall accede to your wishes to remove the said asterisk, and the note that follows the asterisk.

As for your assertions - "to derail a very important Government initiative", "undermine a very crucial Government effort" and "whereas you are clearly bent on sowing discord and disunity" - I would like to say that I am not a member of a race-based party or movement or run a party-owned portal that doesn't believe in a"important Government initiative" or a "crucial Government effort".

Once again, our apologies and herewith reproduced is your letter and the transcript.

PS. I didn't want to correct the grammar in your letter because that would be censorship or clarifying what you meant when it was actually a correction.

PS2. I used PS because I know you don't like asterisks.

A tight race

It was a tight race, with many saying it was too close to call.

And close it was too, but in the end, the BN candidate P. Kamalanathan won with a majority nearly ten times larger than the late PKR MP of Hulu Selangor won in the 2008 General Election.

But then, a close analysis of the number of votes (compared to the 2008 GE) shows that PKR garnered an additional 200 votes while BN gathered an additional 2000 votes. It does seem that the winning majority came from these additional voters since the last GE, all things being the same.

While SiPM (M) has indicated that no matter who won, the Hulu Selangor constituents won big in an election where both BN and PKR put up candidates of caliber, the campaigning was still marred by overzealousness of the Dirty Tricks Dept from both parties.

BN played on the fact that Zaid Ibrahim used to consume alcohol and owned race horses, while PKR chose to cast doubt on P. Kamalanathan's degree from Edith Cowan University. Both were factual, Zaid did use to partake of the amber fluid and the MIC man did get his degree from Edith Cowan, through a 3+0 twinning programme with Olympia College.

It is this reliance on dirty tricks which indicates the lack of maturity of political campaigning in Malaysia, be it a by-election or a general election. A more productive campaign would be to question the candidates on the issues of the day, rather than their personal traits.

Instead, what we saw was the usual denigration of attributes which really meant nothing about the man itself, perpetrated by both PKR and BN in equal measure. SiPM (M) thinks this needs to stop, as we gear ourselves for the next by-election in Sibu, Sarawak. Let that be about real issues, issues an MP is supposed to be handling as he's elected to the federal Parliament.

Let us learn from these lessons, as we move on to the 11th by-election since GE12 in Sibu. It's a different ballgame over there, with the Sarawakians taking their state-hood much more seriously than any one in the peninsular can claim to. It would be an election where, hopefully, the issues rule and where once again both DAP and BN put up candidates of caliber for the electorate to pick from.

And once again, SiPM (M) says, it's tricky.

The wayang ends, let's cool it

And the wayang kulit has finally played out.

Both PKR and MIC have announced their candidates for the by-election in P94, Hulu Selangor. Batting for PKR would be former cabinet minister and ex-UMNO Kota Bahru MP, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim while stepping up to the crease for MIC is P. Kamalanathan, the new face of MIC and party information chief.

While Zaid's candidacy was announced without much fanfare, the hoo haa over the MIC candidate played out in the press at large. On one side you have MIC supremo Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu insisting that it was his deputy, G. Palanivel or bust while the UMNO branches in the constituency wanted Mugilan, the deputy youth chief. Clearly it was bust for the MIC president when he was forced to back down and suggest Kamalanathan instead.

And what a slap in the face it must be too, to have their candidate selection so openly influenced by UMNO. Can Samy still say that he's the strongman of the Indian community ?

However one silently rising notion would be that Samy actually planned this blow up in public, if nothing but to show that Palanivel wasn't wanted nor accepted by BN/UMNO. Why though would he undermine his deputy like this, especially since he promises to turn the party over to him ?

Perhaps this is the first shot of a battle to get his son, Vel Paari, a spot in the upper echelons of the party hierarchy and continue the dynasty. A page out of the old playbook of his longtime friend, Tun Mahathir Mohamad, who is doing the same for Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.

Still, the UMNO-MIC show aside, even within PR there are indications that Zaid's selection was not done with unanimous agreement. Some say Zaid's liberal policies and outlook mean the folk from PAS may not push their election machinery in H.S. enough for him, while others are saying Azmin Ali is threatened by Anwar's selection of Zaid as his possible successor. Azmin wants that spot, you see.

No matter how they got selected though, SiPM (M) had called for a good candidate selection, in order for the voters to choose from quality choices for Hulu Selangor. On that count, both Zaid and Kamalanathan fit the bill. Both are liberal men, with some good ideas, both represent the new wave sweeping their respective parties, and both are fit to be in Parliament if elected.

And oh, while we are at it, another fly by night ADUN from PKR quit his party. Ho hum, no big news this and lost it was in the bigger Hulu Selangor miasma.

It is a brand new story, folks, played out in the old wayang kulit style. As Malaysians, let us all watch and enjoy it.

When the tail wags the dog

We at SiPM (M) actually wonder who runs the country, 1Malaysia or 50Malaysia.

While the PM is away on a ~~PR bought ego~~ Washington DC trip, his deputy decides to take things in hand and makes remarks invalidating not one, but two of his boss' plans for uniting Malaysia and his fractured coalition.

It makes us at SiPM (M) wonder if this is a carefully crafted play to keep us continually guessing their strategies, or if its just open dissent as the power play between Najib and Muhyidin is played out in the open.

Not only has the DPM single-handedly killed any chance of the interfaith panel being formed, he has also been showing all Malaysians that he is more than willing to let Ibrahim Ali and Perkasa dictate the government's actions and policies. Surprising that a single independent MP is able to wag the DPM. Perhaps it should just be made official, by making him the DPM. Or PM.

While the voice of a liberal Malay agenda is gaining some momentum, Malaysians have long grown tired of racial and religious rhetoric and politicking. The business of running the country seems to be taking a second seat to one-upmanship in state assemblies and Parliament.

It does seem that Perkasa has the ability to overshadow even BN's arduous decision over who to select as a candidate in Hulu Selangor. Even here, the discord between the MIC President's personally selected successor and the choice of the local UMNO branches needs the PM's tiebreaker. This does not bode well for the MIC's role within the BN coalition.

Conversely, PR seems to have more or less agreed on a heavyweight. Whether he will be able to placate the voters, remains to be seen but his coalition has at least shown some cohesion among its component parties.

The further this goes, the more the schism is going to widen, and the more alienated Malaysians are going to get. As my colleague points out, thank you Mr DPM for pushing more votes SiPM (M) way. We stand for a Malaysia for its rakyat, and for what makes all of us tick. We stand for a Malaysia as it once was, not what it seems to be turning to.

We stand for a Malaysia where justice has a fair shake at being done, instead of insulting experts who try to shed light. We stand for what the ordinary Malaysian needs.

Give SiPM (M) your vote, and sound the clarion that Malaysians are tired of shenanigans from all parties.

You know its what needs to be done, we don't talk shit.

Small Fry

You have singlehandedly minimised an effort for religious harmony in Malaysia. You should be proud.

You are a hero now. Not a zero. Your frankness is appreciated. We all know our place in Malaysia now. Thanks to you.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) understands that you have to do what you have done. We will do the same. But we won't waste time on a small fry like you.

We have bigger fish to catch. To fry, so to speak.

At the very least, we thank you for your comment which will send votes our way. Vote SiPM (M), where there are no small fries. Just fish.

Sibu hunts a head

And before the 10th is even open for nominations, we get news of another looming by-election.

This time it is in Sibu, Sarawak. And a politically significant one it is too, since the Sarawak state elections are soon due, and both Pakatan and Barisan have been talking up their chances of taking the state.

For Pakatan, it is important that they make some inroads into east Malaysia, for they would need that should they harbour any hopes of forming a federal government. For BN, its a barometer of how they have managed to shore down their strength since the losses of March 2008.

Central to all of this would be were Taib Mahmud throws his weight, which for now is firmly behind BN. Nevertheless even the PM knows that he still needs to take into account Taib's considerations (read: interests) in the matter before seeing it as a done deal.

The Sibu by-election will thus serve as an indicator of how state elections will go. One would expect the DAP to play a significant role here, given their long time presence in both the seat and the state. However, the hawks in PKR may insist to have this done their way, which to be sure will test the loose coalition's cohesion. One wonders if we will have a repeat of 2008, when a PKR candidate stood against his coalition partner from the DAP, against the late Robert Lau from SUPP.

In any case, one would think that Sibu will have a bigger import than Hulu Selangor, with the bigwigs from both PR and BN making their presence felt.

The federal seats from Sarawak are important, if PR ever hopes to win a Parliamentary majority. While BN's dominance in Sabah and Sarawak saved their rear ends in 2008, they cannot hope for this to always be the case, especially since Ku Li is still stirring up the distribution of oil profits.

It is a well known fact that the profits from oil found in Sarawakian territories is largely used to fund projects in the peninsular. However, if one were to be in Kuching, the development and economic growth is something which would surprise you.

So, would the oil issue play a major role in this by-election ? Will Ku Li be a thorn in BN's side in the run up ? Will DAP's Fuzhou coterie in Sibu be able to pull off a win when they've failed in the past ?

Siber Party of Malaysia (M) will soon meet to see if we should throw our hat into the fray. After all, we do have a competent Fuzhou in our ranks, even if he is mostly silent and on a pork eating frenzy. SiPM (M) believes that even if the Chinese make up 60% of Sibu, the Melanau and Iban people are significant enough to play a role. Time for them to speak up and to be heard, and SiPM (M) will gladly do that if provided adequate amounts of tuak and langkau.

Sarawak is not all about oil and logging. The other natural and cultural treasures it has should also be made known, and we at SiPM (M) will promise to bring more tuak and langkau into the peninsular, thus assisting the Sarawakian economy, should we be elected.

For as we said, either way, we still need good candidates bearing fresh eggs, even if headhunters they may be.

The Blue Pill or the Red Pill, or wait for a Purple Pill ?

And in just two weeks, the circus will start as the country faces its 10th by-election in 25 months in Hulu Selangor. And we say democracy is dead in Malaysia.

Two years and two prime ministers. Two years and two fronts to choose from. Two years, and too much rhetoric from both sides and one prime minister. (The other one fell a sleep often and didnt say much).

The economy has not yet recovered fully, and emigration of our talent is becoming a problem, even as nothing is done to retain the ones we still have.

Racial rhetoric is allowed to flourish as short daggers are openly kissed, the symbolism as clear as it was before when a former youth chief did the same. But then, this is outsourced activism to amphibian bodies.

They hop and croak, in unison without independent thought. Or independent balance in Parliament. They hop when rewards hoped for do not materialize. And smear former allies and colleagues. Are these the ones whom we've entrusted our national policy and federal lawmaking to ?

The other side is not much better either. Preferring theatrics to actual governance and providing the check and balance needed, they lose the sympathy once abundant for the injustice done to them.

One man seems to be saying the right things, but for now he is keeping his cards close to his chest and awaits action against him. Or for an opportunity to present itself.

What then of the choice for the voters in Hulu Selangor ? Who do they throw their ballot for ? How much time will they be able to consider ? No one knows, for even as both the BN and PR are undecided about who they want to field, internal pressures in both parties reek of communal and personal interest agendas. The best candidate for the constituency may just be a pipe dream.

There is a need for a strong candidate. One who holds his weight with refreshing ideas to rejuvenate a country tired of politicking and crisscrossing barbs which serve no purpose. A candidate with strength and wisdom, to know when silence is needed and when the voice of his people must be heard. One who can rise above it all.

Siber Party of Malaysia (M) hopes for a choice all voters across the nation can be proud of.

A year after a new prime minister, what else is new?

Najib Razak might have announced a lot of initiatives and measures but none have taken bite. We don't have to remind anyone of the alphabets that he has strung along or the fact that he is stringing us along too.

A measure of what he is lies in the Hulu Selangor campaign.

Although the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) is not contesting the seat, we would like to put our points across to the good people of the federal ward.

Are you still falling for the basket of goodies that come before a hotly-contested by-election that appears key to the prestige and popularity of two self-centered coalitions?

Pakatan Rakyat needs to win this one. Well, PKR needs to keep the seat after losing four MPs. As for Barisan Nasional, an additional seat is always welcome as it builds up towards a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

Of course, SiPM (M) will decide whether to vote along or against either coalitions. To paraphrase WC Fields - "I never vote for anyone. I always vote against."

But you good folks of Hulu Selangor decide. Just like the rest of Malaysia will have to decide whether Barisan or Pakatan is worthy of their vote. For us, its simple, only the SiPM (M) gets the vote.

We are as real as can be. And heck, we rap too.

Shout Loud and Proud

We shall not bore you with what was said by both Ibrahim Ali and Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.

Suffice to say that Prime Minister Najib Razak and his boy blunder Khairy Jamaluddin got the short end of the stick. Others too. Not the Siber Party of Malaysia (M).

We can thank Aisehman for updating us on the rants and tantrums of the short people who need long wavy daggers to wave and stand proud in the face of non-existent threats to your their face and race.

The SiPM (M) believes this country and cyberspace is for all, not just for the dominant and vociferous few who think they basically own the itsy bitsy tanahair and alam maya here.

Sorry, brader! Go back to your tempurung and stay there! If unsure, refer to the Federal Constitution on what being a Malaysian is all about.

It is about time we took back our country from those who think Malaysia belongs to them. Not going to name names but you know who they are. Malaysia belongs to all of us and SiPM (M), though we disappear for long patches of time, will be around to make sure of that.

It is time for all of us to shout, loud and proud, that we are Malaysians and no one can wave their itty-bitty wavy dagger and tell us to shut up and put up with their nonsense.

That's what we are going to tell them in Parliament on Monday, stay independent, not dependent!

It isn't 67 percent of Malays/Bumiputeras who are dominant in Malaysia and need the current government to give it at least 30 percent equity, its Malaysians who own Malaysia 100 percent and expect 100 percent in return.

Its our money, brader! Not yours! Vote for SiPM (M). Shout for SiPM (M).

You know you are in a great country when the people fight over who gets the right to call God, God!

Be it in English or Arabic or your own mother-tongue. So it is that Siber Party of Malaysia (M)'s (SiPM) Malaysia spent the first three weeks of the year debating about God, praying to God about helping and defending God, attacking churches, gurdwaras and mosques over His name.

If that is not 1 Malaysia, tell us what is? If that is not Malaysian Malaysia, tell us what is? If that is not the new, all-improved Middle Malaysia, tell us what is? If that is not a recipe for disaster, tell us what is?

Now depending where you read this, apparently there are some words you cannot utter for fear of misleading the faithful of some faiths and confuse them over whether God is God or perhaps God!

We in SiPM (M) have faced the reality that the solution to the issue is no solution at all. Call God God or whatever else, He is still He and the Almighty. And if He is not, then why are people fighting over naming rights?

Perhaps its a lack of faith among the faithful. This is no problem to the faithless as they have no faith but for the faithful, it is a huge problem. Almost as big as God, not god!

We note that those who fight over His name have many things in common - they are right-wing nuts with prayer beads and beards prowling about in robes. They only dispute is whether they should share His name for they agree on almost everything else.

What a pity.

We in SiPM (M) can only say this, take note of the first three weeks of 2010 in Malaysia and continue to say His name. Whatever you want to call Him! If not, call us.

Alhamdulillah. Memang lama betul kita tidak bersua. Apakan daya, seperti yang telah diutara oleh rakan saya Mat Merah, kami telah sekian lama bertungkus lumus menyiapkan kerja-kerja orang lain.

Tidak mengapa, kini kami kembali. Dan setelah beberapa bulan mendalami dengan lebih terperinci selok belok aktiviti-akitivi Pakatan Rakyat dan juga Barisan Nasional, kami sekarang boleh mengkritik dengan lebih berkesan. Bak pepatah Sun Tzu "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer".

Oh ya. Selamat Hari Natal saya ucapkan kepada saudara saudari saya yang penganut Al-Masih.

Adakah tahun ini anda semua berkelakuan baik? Kalau tidak sudah tentu Ayah Krismas tidak akan memberi anda hadiah tahun ini.

Dengar khabar, Ayah Krismas telah menaiktarafkan kenderaan penghantaran hadiah dengan membeli 2 buah enjin F-5E.

Kalau enjin-enjin tersebut telah disedekahkan oleh kerajaan Malaysia untuk kebaikan dunia takpa juga.

Tetapi ternyata harapkan pagar pagar makan padi. Orang-orang yang bertanggungjawab haruslah dibawa kemeja pengadilan.

Dengan itu, saya ingin mengakhiri dengan seruan untuk kita berbuat baik-baik di Hari Natal ini, minum baik-baik, jangan membawa kereta apabila terlalu mabuk dan berkasih-kasihlah dengan orang yang tersayang.

Kami di SiPM cuma ingin berpesan setinggi-tinggi tupai melompat, akhirnya jatuh ke tanah juga. Dan jika tupai tersebut masuk dalam seluar, nayalah habis...

With profuse apologies, those who think we died or rolled up the carpet (gulung tikar daa) would be disappointed to know that we did neither.

Fact is, we were working on two top secret projects that finally came to light this week.

Yes, some of us in the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) worked on the National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Barisan Nasional government while the rest had a hand in Pakatan Rakyat's Common Policy Framework.

You can see the similarities. Its only that much we can differentiate or give separate ideas to both our clients, be it the Barisan Nasional or the Pakatan Rakyat.

Of course, they will take the credit for it all.

Not an issue with us.

But you heard it here first. Well, last as the case may be.

After all, which party really looks out for your interest if not the Siber Party of Malaysia (M).

Looking forward to maintaining the party as number one in Malaysia.

PAS-Umno dance leaves others hopping

The political ménage à trois is getting hot and heavy in Malaysia.

Both political coalitions aiming to rule the country are now in an uproar of sorts after PAS decided to continue doing the Muslim thing and think of getting new partners, all in the name of engaging others.

At its weekend meeting, the PAS party brahmins decided they will flirt with other parties in the name of an unity government in the current socio-economic-political situation that Malaysia is stuck in.

This policy is much to the chagrin and disbelief of its faithful, who for long thought Umno is the devil incarnate they had escaped from in 1951.

Some so-called liberal-nationalist Young Turks sought to end the rule of the scholarly Old Turks, who were Young Turks themselves in the 1980s when they finished off the nationalist Old Turks that co-habitated once with Umno in 1974.

Yes, history repeats itself. Sometimes.

All because the Young Turks of today want to stick with the current Pakatan Rakyat pact while the Old Turks of today want to remain independent and chart their own destiny to realise their Islamic State.

Which they think is possible with Umno.

That has left the others hopping. Hopping mad to be precise.

All this is senseless distraction from the main matter at hand. The economy.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) is of the opinion that unity governments notwithstanding, now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country!

Not along the lines of race, religion but to reason.

The venerable Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today commented about the unity government proposal, saying it would only bring good if both sides were sincere about doing it in the interest of the nation.

"But it's sometimes difficult for politicians to be sincere. I'm also a politician, you know," he said, smiling, Bernama reported.

Sincerity. That's the word. Are PAS and Umno doing it sincerely for the country or to perpetuate their power and move a secular Malaysia towards an Islamic state, which is just another platform to keep power.

We have to ask the hard questions. For we have no faith in these men who proclaim their faith openly and wear their hearts on their sleeves but still have a trick up their sleeve.

So rock the vote for the Siber Party of Malaysia (M). Our ménage à trois is true to its purpose and origins. We don't want an unity government, we want an orgy of fun in the sun without anyone ruining it.

Najib's 1Malaysia confuses me. I am sure it confuses a lot of you folks as well.

Today he spoke of having the 3 concept pillars of unity: acceptance, principle of nationhood and concept of social justice.

Sweet dreams indeed.

However, on the ground, things are not so sweet.

The boys in blue had invoked the Printing Presses and Publication Act to raid the DAP HQ yesterday and it has created an impression that our proud but underpaid PDRMers are neglecting their crime busting duties. Hence why there have been so many snatch thefts.

But I digress.

The point is this: Malaysia is at a deadlock and both Pakatan Rakyat and Barisan Nasional are unable to provide suitable solutions for our nation.

Therefore, support SiPM! For the power of 4G:

In 1Malaysia, everything explodes

What a day yesterday was.

A smackdown on a city called Ipoh, exploding to smithereens the very idea of 1Malaysia, according to DAP's Lim Kit Siang. We have to agree with him.

In the following days, much will be argued about what happened in Perak. Much to be said, expressed and maybe a few candles lit in the inky blackness of the night.

Of course, the police, who have proven effective to police fashion sense, will not have any of this. No black, no candles, no gathering. And they shall be in full force to ensure these rules are adhered to.

Forget about crimes like snatch thefts, murders, robberies and such. Those are harder to track but not as subversive to the state as wearing black, gathering somewhere and holding a candle.

That is a crime.

And one more thing, you cannot sit too long on the speaker's chair. That's like squatting around. Punishable with being dragged and dumped in a room. This is 1Malaysia, where life is explosive and everything explodes.

Stands to reason that would be the political face-off this century. Both are the ones gagging for a fight which gives them reason to exist in this New Malaysia.

So how about it? The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) is more than happy to step out of the fight and allow these two fine specimens of Malaysian polity fight it out for posterity though we rather they work things out for our prosperity.

After all, it seems that Barisan Nasional is hesitant and want to work on fixing the economy. Heck, even the DAP wants to move on and get Penang's economy moving forward.

Its only these two who are spoiling for a fight, for a siege mentality to keep them relevant and keep them in public eye.

Come on. Let these two tribes go to war.

Penang police chief slams smoking ban

GEORGE TOWN: Police yesterday slammed the state government for announcing a blanket smoking ban in public areas for uniformed police officers without consulting the force.
State deputy police chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the police would not abide by the directive blindly.

"We will not comply with the directive and will look at various legal aspects before deciding on the next course of action.

"Our objective is to scrutinise the directive to ascertain if it is legally binding to prevent civil employees from puffing in public.

"It is pointless to follow the instructions in the absence of any law on the matter."
Tun Hisan said there was no need to follow the directive as the disciplinary committee in the force was adequate to take action against policemen who smoked while on duty.

Where the deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin can say something in one language for it to come out, apparently different, in other languages, but what is said is fine as Malaysia is a democracy.

Glad we got that out of the way and no longer excited about it.

Funny how these BN politicians think, that we would vote for them, follow them even, to reciprocate for the lucre they dish out in every election campaign.

Not even for instant noodles.

We the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) have not made many promises save a few. None have come true of course. Yet, it is not something we will give willy-nilly just to take back a seat or two.

Because we know the people want more than instant gratification (no?). They want liberty, equality and fraternity... and let's not forget some profanity.

However, we have to stop politicians from cunning linguistics, the same kind found in Animal Farm that turned four legs good, two legs bad into four legs good, two legs better!

Because even in that parody of communism, Orwell could tell that one day, all animals are equal can have the addendum, but some animals are more equal than others.

And that, lads and ladettes, is One Malaysia. Follow it at your own peril.

Cabinets and Excess Baggage Room

Folks, we are a bit, let's just say, worried.

One, too few visitors here. Have we offended you? We are no longer serious? You tell us.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) does not only promise to change but has changed. From now on, we don't accept any more new members or readers.

So begone.

Two, the putative prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has just formed a 'lean and mean' cabinet that is just two short of the former list of ministers but two more than the old cohort of deputy ministers.

So take out two here, add two there and voila! you have a 'lean and mean' cabinet. Must be all that science and mathematics in English that has us confused.

Many have spoken about this new Najib Administration and the power-behind-the-throne, so to speak. They speak not of a Cabinet but of an excess baggage room of those who might, let's just say, not have any personality, integrity and some kind of gritty.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) knows it can do better. With the five of us in Parliament, we can form a better, leaner and meaner Cabinet than the tail end of R.A.H.M.A.N. can ever do.

We have sliced and diced the ministries to five. The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) knows it just takes five to make One Malaysia, One This , One That and One-something-or-other.

The most important ministry deals with money, industry and all things finance. We have named this MILF - Ministry of Money, Inefficiency, Looting and Frauds.

The second deals with education, information, religion, welfare and the pursuit of all things Malaysian. We call it after our hero's theory, MC2 - Ministry of Mind Control and Charlatans

The third deals with trade, policies, sports and everything in between. Its called CUP - Ministry of Cronyism and Unfair Policies.

The fourth ministry is for health, environment and the future of our country, the youth. Its named HEY - Health, Environment and Youth.

The fifth ministry is by far the most crucial and is headed by the prime minister, whom we have yet to nominate but most likely is the champion of champions, the caliph of caliphs, the maharani of SiPM (M), YB Minah Black. We call it the the Ministry of Prime Ministerial Services or PMS for short.

There you have it. Five people, five ministries, one country, one vision.

Alt.Hantu.Ya?

Faith. Altantuya. Race. King.

These are the four issues that cannot be raised within the confines of all political ceramahs for the three by-elections this April 7. Since the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) is not contesting any of the seats, we guess the ban does not apply to us.

So we can happily discuss them right here, right now. Of course you can too, outside ceramahs in Bukit Gantang, Bukit Selambau and Batang Ai. When the speakers make the sign, the listening crowd can shout Faith. Altantuya. Race. King or FARK for short.

You heard it right the first time. Nothing in the law that stops you from using any word that you want to express yourself. And while at it, go ahead and use the word 'Allah' but not together, lah!

The thing is, the authorities are not too smart. Neither is the ruling government. What would possess them to ban such words or topics? Putting the lid to such issues will only make people talk more about it.

Nothing better than something illicit.

No offence meant but there is no offence in speaking about any of these topics. It is not seditious but if you think that its not kosher, or halal, just shorten it and use the abbreviation to make our point that Malaysians have a right to discuss what others don't want them to discuss.

Can a Mongolian who is dead not be an issue in any elections even if she has never been there? Are instant noodle projects still the rage in election campaigns? Do the police think people are stupid?

The latest action has just resurrected the ghost of Altantuya Shaariibuu just as the country changes prime ministers. Lost political baggages have now been found in the conveyor belt of scandals and stories.

Yes, banning the dead just brings them back alive. Saying it isn't so is as good as saying it is so.

So let's say it once and for all. Say her name loud and proud. Or just say FARK! It sounds better.

Old Alliance parties share same tactics

OK folks, move on, there is nothing to see here.

Just some bloodletting by the UMNO guys. They culled Ali Rustam to ensure purity of the bloodstocks in the rarefied atmosphere at the 39th floor of Menara Dato' Onn.

It all happened days after they found a charm underneath outgoing president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's desk. That was the thing that kept corruption and all the dirt under the carpet. The cleaning dudes couldn't get at it.

Heck, even the cops can't read it as its sooooo tiny its virtually indecipherable. So, they are leaving it to the Chemistry Department to figure out the Arabic doodles. Mind you, since Malaysia began teaching Science and Mathematics in English, its only the scientific-types who can read any language or symbols.

Or destroy it trying.

But not destroying is the order of the day over in UMNO. They just stopped good ol' Ali from the number two post but think he is good enough to remain Malacca Chief Minister. What you say, double standards of justice?

What do you expect from an incoming prime minister-cum-finance-minister-dash-UMNO chief who has doubled levies on foreign workers so that we can use local workers in our factories, restaurants and toilets and therefore double the rates too.

More money made, more tax gained. That's a stimulus package for you right there. Thank you, Mr Prime Minister for following the prosper-thy-neighbour policy of the former Number One - Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

But it just seems that our neighbours are prospering while we perspire.

OK, out of point here, apologies Mr Speaker. We don't want to be out of Parliament for a year, no sirree no! Move along now, no one got killed here!

Except Ali's career. Here's where UMNO took a leaf from MIC whose el presidente is fighting off the Obama-like-figure of a 68-year-old man seeking to restore his political career and revive the party.

Years ago, MIC took it upon itself to create a glass ceiling that only allowed Tamils to move up the party ladder, subject to approval from he-who-must-be-obeyed-at-all-costs-from-sungei-siput.

So a Malayalee called K. Pathmanaban didn't make it up past the vice-presidency in 1991. Cut to UMNO of 2009 and we see the same thing, a Malay Ali cannot make it past the vice-presidency too.

See the eerie similarity. Not only that, UMNO, like MIC, has followed the MCA in only having a select list to make it to the top, a certain cai tan, so to speak, of leaders qualified and verified for greater success.

If you are not part of the blueblood, forget it.

Don't even try as they will trip you and cut you down to size. Some like Ali, get to keep what they gained but others, like Anwar Ibrahim, lost everything political and spent some time as a government guest.

See, didn't we tell you the old Alliance parties share the same tactics? How utterly predictable they are.

Next week, they will kiss and make up and pledge a brighter future for all. Just like they do every year and every election. Its the same tactic that we all fall for.

That's a good reason to join the Siber Party of Malaysia (M). We don't have any tactics and we have not been in power for 50 years.

And we don't promise anything except a good time, even if it kills us. Or our careers.

What in God's name...

The way the law sees it, this post cannot be read in every Malaysian state save Penang, Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territories as there is no fatwa or edict there yet on banning the use of the word Allah (tm) in non-Muslim publications.

But this is the Internet and available at all territories bar fixes in a proxy server. Therein lies our dilemma as lawmakers who do not want to break the law, be it a religious law or edict however irrational it is.

So how? How can any government legislate how and what we call our supreme maker, for those who believe that life is not an accident but a design from a much more intelligent sentient being or a collective pantheon of beings or gods who is/are amused by our shennanigans.

Let's not even go there and debate the very nature of the supreme maker, the creator, the destroyer and what-have-you.

What we want to get to is the name of the Heavenly Father, the Lord, the One, the Supreme Being in the national language Bahasa Malaysia. Is it just Tuhan, which can actually be re-arranged to spell Hantu, or can everyone use Allah (tm).

DAP's Tunku Aziz said the government should not legislate pending a court case in the matter. Can any follower of any religion say you cannot call the name of their lord in vain? Is it a matter of your god against my god no matter how irrational that is for monotheistic religions?

Can any race control the words of another race? Can they stop others from saying or printing anything they want in the name of their faith? Is it lawful? Does God care? Do we?

Is God laughing at us? You think?

Oh hello!

It sure has been awhile since we've been busy with our sabbatical in Taiwan.

But what a ride it has been for Perakians these past few days.

Now it seems that Perak Darul Katak will have a new BN state government as the if-you-can-pinch-my-guy-i-can-pinch-your-guys tactic has worked for BN.

While Malaysians continue whether it is ok for BN MPs to jump to PR but not the other way around, DAP will surely be the biggest losers with Hee crossing across the divide.

Terngangalah Ngeh dan Ngah... Tu lah siapa suruh gaduh-gaduh...

Much will be debated on the reasons why they defected; money, power, stability, sacrifice - whatever the reasons maybe what we will need to think about is whether the freedom to associate should correlate with the freedom to keep your ADUN or MP seat.

And at the same time, Pakatan Rakyat must reassess in putting all their faith in their Supreme Leader Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim in executing strategies. This is last act of short-sightedness is proving very costly indeed.

But now, we want to jump too! But only to this song... ;)

Is Malay pride cheap?

Minta maaf, we have disappeared for a while as we had to make sure our money or what's left of it remained safe in the current global financial disappearing act. We can gladly report we have enough left over for a beer party.

Damn! Oktoberfest is over. Yet, in the spirit of Malaysia's YES! or rather Year-End-Sales or now renamed Malaysian Saving Sales, we are surprised to see that Malay pride appears to be on sale at a trifling amount of RM2 million.

That's the amount that GGMM or Young Malays Graduate Movement is demanding from MCA No 2 Chua Soi Lek, the man who has increased Chinese pride on the first day of this New Year.

Why do we ask if Malay pride is cheap?

Simple, the Hindu Rights Action Front (Hindraf to the uninitiated which is now banned by the government) had demanded 4 trillion pound sterling (RM22 trillion) from the British Government last year claiming they were brought here as indentured labourers and later marginalised by the Malaysian authorities.

And what does GGMM ask? RM2 million for the citizenships given out during Merdeka.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) is appalled at the nano sum asked by the GGMM. Come on, have some pride, Malaysian citizenships must be worth more than that, particularly if compounded from 1957.

Or are we still in the habit of giving out citizenships for a stick of kretek? Are our identity cards and passports so cheap these days?

We are not that cheap. But if GGMM thinks that they are, we'll raise them double and take over the country too. But let's do it before the next Malaysia Day as we have had enough of the blather from the bugger.

Right, Malaysian Savings Sales, 1957 citizenships certificates on sale.

Cheap! Just RM2 million for the right to be called pendatang and get the kris waved in your face once in a while.

Or RM22 billion for the right to be called keling and sent to Kamunting for a few years.

And he wants to meet the current officer bearer Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to discuss transition plans.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) - like the rest of Malaysia - want to know names, not any of this tricky turns of phrases of peaceful transition plans.

Today is Malaysia Day, not April 1st. Anwar took us for a drive to the future but it looks like more of a ride to nowhere now.

Selamat Hari Malaysia!

Two score and five years ago, yadayadayada blah blah blah... Yep, Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore formed Malaysia on this date in 1963, which was also Lee Kuan Yew's 40th birthday. (Makes you wonder why it never actually happened on August 31, 1963!)

So, the man who coined Malaysian Malaysia is 85 now and is a Singaporean, the independent tiny red dot and shopping mall with a United Nations membership. And where are we today?

Tricked into thinking that we wake up today to a country with a different government, a new and fresh approach to politics where meritocracy rules but natives are still taken care of, and what-have-you... oh yes, petrol prices will be 70 sens cheaper. Right!

It hasn't happened yet. Anwar Ibrahim promises to reveal names today and has sent a letter to Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for a peaceful transition of power. Really? Bold, brazen, he has gumption, cojones and as most schleps would say, chutzpah!

But we are still in a land where petrol is 2.55 ringgit a litre, Teresa Kok and Raja Petra Kamaruddin are both still under investigations for a maximum of 60 days under the Internal Security Act while Hindraf leaders spend another day of two years in Kamunting under the same law.

And race and religion is still an issue although for the rest of the world, the turmoil in the world financial markets and sinking US lenders and merchant bankers hold more interest than these orchestral manouveres in the dark and dingy world of Malaysian politics.

Dr Mahathir griped about this as much as he grumbles about the lack of life in Putrajaya's main boulevard and lack of leadership under the giant green onion dome that used to be his office.

(You do know that the onion dome is just not form but also function - it serves to store the dirt under the carpet from his years in administration and makes you wonder why Abdullah has some sinus issues).

Be that as it may, the Siber Party of Malayia (M) believes we wake up today in the same manner our brethren across the South China Sea and south of the Johor Causeway did 45 years ago, nothing new but with a sense of freedom and optimism for a future that we will shape ourselves.

Abdullah, Anwar, Najib, Dr Mahathir are the catalysts for us to make the change for a better Malaysia, if not a Malaysian Malaysia.

For sure, Dr Mahathir's views still hold great traction among us because the crop of wannabes like Hishamuddin, Khairy, Husam, Liow, Sothinathan, Nur Jazlan, Tony Pua, Nasharuddin, Sulaiman Taib and the rest of the younger set have not put forth their views well.

We need opinions. We need vision. We need leadership.

A question of Leadership

The hangover following the March 8 polls is not leaving any of us in a hurry.

The Pakatan Rakyat grabbed five states and denied Barisan Nasional its taken-for-granted two-thirds parliamentary majority by eight seats. Nine today if you consider poor Joseph Kurup's defeat in election court after winning unopposed on Nomination Day.

The score is 139-81, one Independent, one in abeyance.

But more than that, we will finally observe and not ignore Malaysia Day this year. Not because Malaysia was formed 45 years ago but due to Anwar Ibrahim's promise to take power with the help of at least 30 MPs from the BN.

We wonder if any of the 49 bound for Taiwan are among the 30 or 40 he thinks has joined the exodus from the winning team of March 8, BN, to the losing team PR.

The tipping point could be the question of leadership especially in the face of one Ahmad Ismail's rant in the heat of campaigning during the Permatang Pauh by-election. Do we allow one man to tell us the history of Malaysia?

Of course, we should all be upset. As he is now that his Umno party seems to be losing control of Malaysia to "squatters" as he calls them. Then again, he should know that Malaysia or Malaya would not exist without the alliance of the three major races in Malaya and later Malaysia with the consent of the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

Do the leaders of Umno know this? Do Umno members think governing Malaysia is their birth right that even some, if not all, of the state constitutions say only Malay Muslims can be chief ministers and such?

All this boils down to a question of leadership in Umno, and by extension BN, or for that matter the allies within PR. How far will they go to allow extreme voices speak in the wilderness or bring them in line with mainstream political thinking of compromise and cooperation?

Is anyone less racist for helping others in election campaigns? Is anyone more racist for harping on squatters and their lesser right to run the nation? Are we a nation of racists who cannot tolerate racists?

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) believes in Malaysia and that it has no place for racists. Ahmad Ismail and his ilk have their right to free speech but also face the right to hear what others say about them. It is easy to blame the media but they should know that what they say have repercussions.

Going racial, insular and parochial in a time of change is as Samuel Johnson said, "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel". Ahmad Ismail, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Anwar Ibrahim and Najib Abdul Razak best remember that.

We are looking for heroes at a time of change when uncertainty rules. Not zeroes.

Another Bum Rap for Anwar?

No! We are not referring to some rap of sorts - they call it dance rock - by some DJ duo recently.

We are talking about Sodomy II as it is referred to these days. Like the Gulf War, later called Gulf War I when another Bush went for Gulf War II. Were there reasons for another Gulf War? George W. Bush thought so.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, mentor-turned-nemesis to Anwar Ibrahim - before that Musa Hitam and after that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi - thought there were reasons for Sodomy II.

Be that as it may, here we go again with another round of sexual misconduct allegations on the eve of an international sporting event. Sex and Malaysian politics too are spectator sports and not sideshows - like the Commonwealth Games 1998 and the Olympic Games 2008.

So many have discussed it in the court of public opinion, as they did a decade ago, and yes it does look like a rehash of the 1998 script but Anwar Ibrahim appears to have more sympathisers on his side even if there are lesser people taking to the streets.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) thinks the March 8 elections is the catalyst for this change in support from the streets to the hearts. The vote and the power is with the people and the politicians cannot act just for their own interests.

Those tone-deaf to the people will find themselves in a blind date with destiny. The courts can decide on law but justice is the wish of the people and we figure Permatang Pauh on August 26 will make the choice for Putrajaya on September 16.

But let's not have another Groundhog Day, another moment of deja vu. We don't think we can imagine another round of accusations and balaclava-clad men jumping on Anwar in 10 years time.

Let's have a change in script. Let's have changes for the people of Malaysia.

Keystone Cops patrol KL

Been one of those weeks, stuck in traffic for mindless kilometres and hours only to go past a road block and a bored looking cop not even bothering to check your car, let alone limply wave you through.

The city police said they had 1,600 policemen to lock down the city but the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) wonders where they found the two dozen or so, some in cheap ski-masks and luminous vests, to go arrest Anwar Ibrahim for nearly being late to see them.

So, we were in a gridlock, Anwar was in an armlock and later in a lock-up as police stuck to the lock down. Maybe because they were as goofy as the Keystone Cops that they decided lock was the word of the week.

We do think it is unfair if not uncanny for the police to reuse the same script 10 years later to celebrate Anwar's first arrest when the so-called balaclava-clad policemen took him down while his supporters stared down menacingly at riot police with wicker shields protecting their prized catch. But then, it was at night.

This time, in broad daylight and the accidental presence of a Nanyang Siang Pau photographer, the cops donned their garb of choice and made their move on Anwar. Ridiculous and ludicrous are the only words to describe the police farce.

Makes you wonder where the fashion police was at that time of day. Possibly checking us as we went out for lunch in case we wore any pro-reformasi type stuff.

This much we know about the Royal Malaysian Police. They are not too smart though they have intelligence and wherewithal to actually bring down crime and keep the peace. Instead, the former deputy prime minister gets royal treatment with a hood covering his head and an escort of ski-masked men in police issue vest just for questioning into a case.

There is no charge yet but the words in a police report. And of course, the de facto leader of the opposition himself is a drama queen and insists on recalling events a decade ago. Both Anwar and the police are stuck in a rut and a moment they want to replay every 10 years or so.

Makes you want to scream for some of that treatment if caught speeding too. Or at least make sure some of these ski-masked vest-wearing cops provide some security around town and not use it to commit crime themselves.

Don't forgive this rant. The entire thing is a farce that even the Keystone Cops or Harol Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin could ever think of as a sketch.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) wants a respectable police force and focus on the economy not a farce and an inclination to look up down under.

Dirty deeds damage DPMs

While the rest of the world grapple with economic woes, the two pretenders to Putrajaya slug it out like never before, publicly punching for power while tarring and feathering each with innuendoes and infidelities.

Yes, no love lost between Anwar Ibrahim and Najib Abdul Razak, once members of the Wawasan Team that swept through the 1993 UMNO party elections but now nemesis raising each other's tempratures as they race to be Prime Minister.

Sodomy charges return to dog Anwar, this time from a university dropout who became driver and then an assistant on allowance who accompanied the sacked deputy prime minister for meetings in and out of Malaysia.

It was also a driver a decade ago and both accusations include posh private condominiums just a few corners from either house or office. Is it a case of old habits or the same scriptwriter?

Altantuya Shaariibuu haunts Najib again but the latest revelations blow the allegations away as private dick Balasubramaniam Perumal flip-flopped like a government that cannot decide to give us cheap fuel or pricey petrol with postal paybacks.

So both trade allegations and punch holes in each other's tattered reputations instead of giving real leadership in the real world spinning away with an economy out of control in an age of sky-rocketting prices and inflation.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) says Malaysia needs real leadership, not damaged DPMs with alleged dirty deeds or government officials who might bend over backwards or forwards for the pleasure of their political masters.

Dirty deeds, like talk and comment, is cheap and free. We want more than that.

The Right to Push Stools

We should always be nice to our fellow men.

In bars or pubs, it can be polite to say "Excuse me, can I push your stool please?" if you need to get around another patron trying to head for the little boys...

But in Malaysia pushing stools in the intimate way, mano-a-mano, is illegal. One of our not so regular commenter quoted the wiki "both the late 90's case and the more present case, Anwar is accused of Sodomy, in this context, taken from the Wiki: the legal use of the term "sodomy" is restricted to rape cases where an act such as anal penetration has taken place".

Rape is rape and sodomy is anal sex. Even another wiki page says so. Let us not be trivialised by symantics and interpretation.

My worry about the negative repurcussion is this: eventhough many of us has not seen the police report, ma a a a a a a a a a aany us are already making wild accusations and conjectures and, to my mind, we are wasting precious time - we could use those precious time to make this nation better.

Therefore, as an attempt to address such time wasting and as the Ketua Biro Dakwah for SiPM, I will propose to the SiPM Debauchery Council that Malaysia repeal sodomy and anti homosexual laws.

In addition, it is time for men and women to be able to enjoy sexual activities without fear or favour, nor worry about taboo of abnormal orientation.

So let's all sing together now and stand up for our rights to push stools! ;)

Pump it up

Finally, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's government is going to cut all subsidies and let fuel prices raise to market levels. Of course, they are thinking of ways to mitigate such a shock to Malaysian consumers mollycoddled on subsidies for so long.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) has long asked for fuel prices to be in tandem with world prices unlike those who have promised to cut prices further if they form the government.

But we feel any move to cut subsidies should also include our recommendation to cut tax on cars or other vehicles. Come on, that would only be fair!

And of course, all savings from the cut subsidies - which is said to amount to some RM56 billion this year at the current global crude oil prices - should be invested in public transport systems owned and operated by the government or at least operated by companies that can make their own profits with leased fleets.

We look forward to tomorrow's announcement with great interest.

After all, it is interesting to note one thing in all the statistics provided by vested groups bitter about fuel price rises, that is, the Malaysian Tapis Spot Price has more than quadrupled from US$31.02/barrel on October 31, 2003 when Abdullah became Prime Minister to US$134.97/barrel on May 23, 2008 when the government started mulling price hikes (adjusted for inflation and notwithstanding the value of the US dollar).

As for fuel prices, it was RM1.35/litre when he took over and is now RM1.92/litre or about a 42 percent increase barring tomorrow's announcement.

But the impact of that rise is greater, as is the increase in Petronas revenues, of which some goes to subsidise gas and other staples. The government will have to review that especially for the independent power producers profiting from such subsidies.

We don't want to point fingers to how this unholy mess of mass subsidies began and our addiction to them but let's pump it up and live with it no matter which government runs Malaysia.

At least you know, vote the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) and pay real prices for everything.

Najib fuels inflation

What is inflation? It is either a rise in prices or a decrease in the value of the currency - the net effect is still higher prices.

It is something that Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak knows about as he is tasked with battling inflation as a result of soaring global prices for commodities - be it food or fuel. So he is doing nobody any favours by cutting subsidies for the RapidKL/RapidPenang bus systems.

There are already rumblings about fare hikes, which leads us to wonder if there are ways and means to improve and mitigate the public transport system in Malaysia particularly the cities.

We think the solution is already in Malaysia and being used by our national carrier Malaysia Airlines which leases most if not all of its aircraft from state-owned Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad.

What does that mean? It means PMB takes the risk of raising bonds and loans to buy the aircraft and leases them to Malaysia Airlines at a fixed annual fee. The national carrier just have to pay for operating costs from salaries to fuel and try to make a profit.

The thing is, PMB can provide low lease rates and thus bring down a portion of MAS' fixed costs. Syarikat Prasarana Nasional Berhad, which now owns Kuala Lumpur city rail commuter network and both the RapidKL and RapidPenang bus systems, can follow PMB's model.

That is, to fund the bus fleets of various operators at a fixed cost (depending on fleet size) and letting the operators to pay for operating costs only for the various routes. And just like aircraft leases, the operators can have in engine options depending on their choice fuel.

There should also be competition along the routes as commuters will have a choice of operators depending on frequency and fleet size.

With prasarana being the Malay word for infrastructure, the government will just have to deal with the cost of infrastructure (notwithstanding its diminishing value) while the operators wage fare wars to make money.

Wouldn't that level the playing field? And provide a choice for commuters.

Unless of course the operators are just interested in profits. Public transport services is usually a volume business and profit margins are thin. State subsidies help to a certain extent but ultimately its a free market.

The alternative choice is to provide free bus services. And pass the cost to taxpayers by lowering the basic tax bracket to widen the net for more wage earners to pay tax. After all, they and their families are using the bus to go to work.

Najib has a choice to not take us for a ride by taking the easy way out to cut subsidies without providing options. The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) believes everyone should have a ticket to ride.

Dr Mahathir is a failed Lee Kuan Yew

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, you are a failed Lee Kuan Yew! Thank Heavens for that!

For many years from the 1970s until now, you have in your own way tried to be Mr Lee Kuan Yew - encouraging, directing, haranguing, ordering, telling, bullying and generally getting your own way in Malaysia as he did in Singapore.

Of course, short of measuring the distance between the trees that line the many roads in Kuala Lumpur as Harry Lee did in Singapore, if you are to believe the numerous taxi drivers plying its streets.

But you have done your darnest to be Lee Kuan Yew for the ends justify the means as Harry does truly believe, even if both of you profess to be believe in the rule of law.

And while in the past, you have professed to believe in a Bangsa Malaysia as set out in Vision 2020, just as Harry believes in Singapore for Singaporeans or Malaysia for Malaysians, you have now turned back to your racist outlook.

And in your retirement, you continued to be like Harry Lee by putting in a weaker leader so that you can continue to impose your patronising, condescending, imperious and dictatorial tone on Malaysia and Malaysians.

Well, you failed. You did not become a Minister Mentor or a Senior Minister. And your successor turned the other way and left you and your legacy in abeyance. You became a failed Lee Kuan Yew.

You might be a great Father of Modern Malaysia as Kuan Yew is Father of Modern Singapore but your children have outgrown you. We thank you for your time, leadership and vision.

But Tun, you are and have always been a man with a chip on his shoulder casting around to be indipensable to Malaysia as the man with the vision and mission to make us great.

You succeeded for 22 years, three months, two weeks and one day with your vision. But now you have cast aside that vision for short-term gains with your short-sighted vision to get rid of your succesor.

Persatuan Kebangsaan Pelajar Islam Malaysia (PKPIM) berpendapat bahawa seragam sekolah untuk murid murid perempuan yang berwarna putih kelihatan jarang dan inilah sebabnya banyak kes-kes "pencabulan, penzinaan dan sebagainya".

Kenyataan yang dilaporkan oleh malaysiakini walaubagaimanapun tidak memberi perhatian kepada cadangan PKPIM untuk menukarkan warna seragam sekolah murid perempuan.

Sebagai Ketua Biro Dakwah SiPM, saya amat kecewa dengan sikap pandangan cetek PKPIM.

Kes kes rogol atau pencabulan tidak ada kena mengena dengan warna baju atau reka bentuk pakaian wanita. Pencabulan terhadap wanita adalah kerana ketaksuban kaum lelaki untuk 'menakluk' kaum wanita, kerana ingin mempamerkan kuasa terhadap kaum wanita dan memaksa kaum wanita menuruti keinginan nafsu lelaki.
Ini menunjukan bahawa kebanyakan lelaki yang mencabul wanita mempunyai pandangan psikologi yang membimbangkan terhadap kaum wanita!
Di Arab Saudi, walaupun kaum wanita disana berselubung dalam hitam, mereka masih menghadapi masalah pencabulan terhadap wanita dan terpaksa membuka klinik klinik untuk membantu mangsa rogol.
Kami menyokong segala tindakan mencegah pencabulan terhadap wanita tetapi PKPIM perlu menyemak semula sebab sebab kenapa berlakunya pencabulan terhadap kaum wanita.
Tanggapan PKPIM yang menyatakan bahawa baju putih jarang tersebut adalah satu penyebabnya murid murid sekolah kita berzina atau membuat parti orgi adalah tidak tepat sekali. Di University of Texas di Austin telah membuat kajian "237 sebab mengapa kita bersenggama" dan kajian tersebut tidak mencatitkan sebarang kesan baju putih jarang terhadap keinginan untuk bersenggama. Mungkin baju putih jarang ialah terlalu spesifik untuk kajian tersebut, tetapi saya percaya walaupun murid murid perempuan memakai tudung, baju dalam dan uniform berwarna hitam, tetapi kalau dah nak bersenggama, bersenggamalah dia.

Dan saya juga percaya, selepas menonton video klip dibawah, statistik kes rogol dan zina tidak langsung akan meningkat. Cuma statistik gelak ketawa. ;)

Recalcitrant

Recalcitrant, that's what Paul Keating described Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad way back in 1993. We would like to add petulant as a sobriquet to the Grand Old Man of brinkmanship politics.

Although its UMNO's internal politics and the party has splintered over the years with retired party presidents fighting with successors, Che Det's resignation from the party he founded is nothing more than the selfish act of a man who wants his way no matter the consequences.

Its his way or the highway!

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) expresses its commiserations for the Melayu Baruah. May it prosper in the absence of its Member No. 00000001. For nothing will ever grow under the shadow of the banyan tree that Mahathir was.

Its time to go past the divisive and racial politics of Mahathir and former protege Anwar Ibrahim - both of whom speak of what the audience want to hear but whose policies are found wanting. We don't need them to patronise us with their presence for what we need is to progress as a nation united under the Malaysian sun.

Frankly, we don't need an UMNO or any other parties that talk about racial supremacy. The Federal Constitution is flawed but it has provided for us in the last 50 years notwithstanding amendments that have curtailed our basic rights.

We need to look after our poor and underprivileged no matter their race, creed or origins.

We want equal opportunities and help for those who don't have such opportunities. We want justice, we want equality, we want respect, we want pay that commensurates with work done, we want the country's riches shared among all, we want a government that governs, a bureaucracy that works with less people but are amply rewarded, a defence system that preserves our way of life.

We don't need selfish politicians with vested interests. We don't need leaders who have outlived their time. We will remember them for their good and bad points. We don't want the petty and personal feuds played out in the open.

Justice at home

It started with a video that proved that there was something rotten in the state of Denmark, to paraphrase Justice NH Chan's words about the courts in the then Wisma Denmark in Kuala Lumpur

Today, de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim has directed the Attorney-General to investigate the allegations against certain individuals contained in the Lingam Tape Royal Commission of Inquiry.

Apparently the commission's report will be made public too. Of course at a princely cost of RM545.

But we wonder who those individuals are. Time will tell, if not the government first.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) believes that justice not only has to be done but has to be seen to be done. No matter how high or low that person's standing is in society. We all make up Malaysia and any dirty deeds soil all of us.

So time to clean the Stygian stables and remove the dirt under the carpet that is now tripping us.

Time to come clean. Here in my home, which is incidentally a "We-Are-The-World"-type effort by a group calling themselves Malaysian Artistes for Unity.

Meanwhile in Myanmar

So, Raja Petra Kamarudin is free. Good for him. Meanwhile, in Myanmar, the situation is still dire.

The junta is refusing all help except material aid and aid workers are left scrambling to get visas which are hard to come by. In several airports across Asia, Myanmar military attaches vet those going aboard aid flights to weed out the media and other undesirable elements.

The U.S. is considering dropping aid directly to the Myanmarese, or Burmese if you prefer, as the junta has yet to give its nod for American aid flights. Why? To preserve power ahead of a national referendum on a new constitution still planned for May 10.

The Siber Party of Malayisa (M) believes the junta needs a kick in the pants and more. It needs to be booted out for all that it has done, and not done, since taking over power nearly 20 years ago despite elections that brought in a new democratic government.

Obviously the lessons of 8.8.88 has yet to be learnt.

Obviously the junta believes that keeping Myanmar in its iron grip despite the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis and its thousands of deaths is better than opening up to aid from the world.

Obviously they are afraid they will fall to the possibility of democracy.

Despite the stubborn junta, the world has to help the Myanmarese people. Now in the aftermath of the disaster and after that to ensure the junta does not isolate the nation from the rest of the world.

Cyclone Nargis might have killed thousands, thanks to the incompetence of the junta, but might it also herald the end of the junta and bring about change for the better, not unlike the Sedition Act and Raja Petra Kamarudin.

Only from chaos can order come. And perhaps democracy.

Sedating the Seditious

Raja Petra Kamarudin. Citizen. Cyclist. Campaigner.Writer. Blogger. Jailbird.

Everyone wants a piece of him. The bloggers. The government. The party. The family. They all got him now. Hero, conscience and prisoner in one fell swoop when he refused to pay bail for his freedom to face trial in October.

A lot has been said and the so-called blogosphere is buzzing. Fact is, he used the medium of the Internet to publicise his conspiracy theories, allegations and innuendoes about the Mongolian model murder without much facts. He says he has the facts.

The court would be the best place to sort out the fact from fiction. But the Sedition Act 1948 is the wrong method of bringing him to account for his story. Those at the wrong end of the stick should have gone to court and sued him for defamation, libel and being brought to public odium and contempt.

That the police have to step in and get the prosecutors to charge him in a criminal court will only enhance him among his supporters and readers. This is a purely civil case similar to the Universiti Utara Malaysia's case against Raja Petra.

It would not be about the payment. It would be about name and honour. Right and wrong.

The MP for Pulai put it well. Charging Raja Petra under the Sedition Act will not sedate the seditious nor a cheap way of deleting the allegations.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) believes it does not take a hammer to swat a fly for the cracks are far-reaching. This is not a matter for the state but the people involved to do the deed themselves.

Live Aid

At a time when food security, minimum wage, global oil prices are issues that dominate the news and our thougts, we have parliamentarians who want to spend money to see themselves on the idiot box.

While we come the live broadcasts of Question Time, and to see ourselves act like never before, we are wondering whether the benefits is worth the cost?

Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek mentioned a monthly cost of RM3 million apart from the RM9 million paid to Telekom Malaysia for the line. RTM also spent RM1 million for three cameras in the Dewan Rakyat to cover the live proceedings.

Dudes, dudettes, there is something fishy about the cost. Especially at a time when every sen saved can go towards ameliorating the cost of staple items for the rakyat especially when it IS the rakyat's money.

Since I wasn't in Parliament - the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) is sending its lawmakers for etiquette courses on how to wave the Standing Orders Book (a little blue book not quite unlike the little blue pill called Viagra - makes you stand long long time), I have yet to read the written answer.

But this is what I think. There is only 16 days of Dewan Rakyat this session which ends May 27, so why is the production cost phenomenal?

The three cameras have already been costed, the staff cost is the normal wage cost, there is no need for additional lighting, and transmision cost is not that expensive especially when Parliament House has a 10MB internet pipeline connected by Telekom Malaysia.

Even if one has to use the huge outdoor broadcasting (OB) trucks, the transmission cost cannot be more than RM2,000 for each 10 minute block and RTM does get preferential treatment being a state broadcaster. And there is always Celcom Broadcast which has been known to provide discounts.

Therefore, apart from the King's Royal Address and the Swearing-In ceremony on the first day (did you see us? did you see us?), a 30 minute transmission of Question Time would only cost about RM6,000 or maybe slightly higher if RTM decided to use 40 minutes of time as a precaution.

Therefore, for 16 days or so, it should come to about RM100,000. And if one was to include electricity costs and maybe some miscellenous costs including tea breaks and the crappy parliament food, it still wont come to RM1 million a month.

We call upon the Minister to come clean and give us a breakdown of costs. If the transmission costs is prohibitive, the money can be used elsewhere for the good of the people or defrayed through advertising breaks.

The amount mentioned is obscene. We cannot live just by entertainment seeing our elected representatives crack absurd jokes or perform awfully on screen. Let's use the money for something better.

Therefore, in our efforts to save money for something better, the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) will not add a video to this post. Go entertain yourself with someting better ;)

Don't Panic!

Is anybody panicking yet?

You know. Possible food and fuel price rises and the fact that the monthly pay packet can't hardly make ends meet.

But do the bozos elected to the Parliament care? Since the March 8 polls, we have seen political games within and without the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat that have yet to answer at least one question.

That is, what the hell is happening with the Malaysian economy?

And whether we Malaysians have enough money in our pockets - notwithstanding the rather dubious strengthening of the Ringgit Malaysia which is more due to the weakening of the US dollar - to maintain some sort of a lifestyle.

Okay, folks in Selangor will get 20 cubic metres of water free. Newspapers report that rice prices are on the up and up due to the whims and fancies of 35 men who slurp soup and rice somewhere in Bangkok Others give ideas on savings.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) thinks that there is undue attention on rice prices. Rice is just a small component of the daily meal or the monthly expenditure in a household. Fact is, how much of rice can one ever eat?

Got to a banana leaf shop and try. They can give you mountains of rice, it isn't free, as they have already put in the cost in the meat, fish and vegetables consumed in the meal. The same scene in the Chinese economy rice shops or the Malay restaurants or the Thai restaurateurs with their little metal bowls of steamed rices at either 50 sen or one ringgit a pop.

That's rice. You don't have to eat it everyday. Like roti canai or char kway teow or bihun soup or whatever strikes your fancy.

Food is a major component of expenditure but there is others there that you can cut out to enjoy or maintain your lifestyle. I mean, do you really want to stretch your ringgit? Especially those in the city who constantly complain of low pay and high expenditures.

Cut out the mobile phone calls. The two mobile phones. The 3G service. The SMSes. See your savings. Cut out that unnecessary trips down the road with your car. Cut out the unnecessary splurge at the departmental stores or boutiques just because purple is in or beads are out of fashion and its time for other chunky jewellery.

Forget the 10 ringgit lattes and teas at the cafe joints just because there is WiFI service there. Or the banoffee pie, cinnamon roll, the tapas

Think about what you can save. And go save it.

Because the bozos in parliament don't care. One of the things they will do is to raise their own pay, get public funds to run their service centres and research teams.

That's our money going to make them debate better or rather speak longer. Talk is free. What we need is action. Err... like now!

May The Farce Be With You

Notwithstanding the March 8 polls results, you know the world has changed when people start comparing unifying-divisive Khairy Jamaluddin to Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng sports a turban.

A red one! Yes. Its a farce, it is!

No, we don't think that Khairy Jamaluddin - the putative polymath Malay ultra/son-in-law/politician/boutique owner/football manager/whatever - is anyone from the Star Wars universe.

And we don't think that those who gave their opinions know much about UMNO or its juvenile Youth wing. Or rather, they display a certain lack of wit or knowledge of what they talk about. No wonder it came out in Mentera's favourite online comic.

Fact is, UMNO is A Malay party. So its members are focused on Malay causes and politics. So yes, everyone there should technically be a Malay ultra. Not even if they seem to be reformists hell bent on opening UMNO to all Malaysians.

The last person who did that was Onn Jaafar. He left and left it as a Malay party. Which means if Khairy is an UMNO party member, he is quite rightly a believer in the Malay cause and a Malay ultra of sorts.

And his options are limitless but his future is cloudy and vague. He probably needs Yoda to guide him now!

But what takes the cake is their comparison of Khairy to either Skywalker or Darth Vader. Come on! Anyone with a shallow knowledge of Star Wars know that Skywalker was obsessed with his mother, forbidden love and a thirst for power and thus seduced to the Dark Side.

And Darth Vader is just a running dog/errant knight errant of his master, the Emperor! Either way, the anti-hero's redemption comes with his death at the hand of his son.

You see Khairy as any of that (pun intended if you get it!)? Khairy is just Khairy - a wannabe in a land of nobodies and dictators who build on greed, envy, hatred and dirt swept under the carpet.

Freedom

Freedom of expression. Pure and simple. Is that too hard?

What are we talking about here? The freedom for some sharia lawyers and judges to express their thoughts and ideas for their faith and their reason of existence, such as punishment for non-Muslims caught for close proximity or khalwat with Muslims.

Of course, it is a foolish idea what more when proposed on April 1. First, the very idea is against any societal norms and what more, against the some 690-times-amended Federal Constitution.

But what do they and we Malaysians get? We get this riposte from an apparently learned man. He ripped apart the idea and connected it to other concepts such as Islam Hadhari and the now much-beleaguered UMNO.

See, the sharia lawyers and judges live in their own perfect world and think it is unfair that only Muslims get punished but the others don't. Of course, they don't think it is unfair that only Bumiputeras get seven percent discount on house prices, easier access for education, etc!

And they don't get it that being Muslims in Malaysia is an oppression with such repressive laws that prevent close proximity, drinking alcohol, gambling etc. They don't see the need for such freedoms because they don't think Muslims in Malaysia can take freedom responsibly.

We don't blame them.

Let them access to the Internet and they dip their keys and mice into vitriol and venom and let fly with allegations, innuendos, lies and whatever filth they can get their mind to spin.

Let them access to cars and motorcycles and they race to oblivion.

Freedom. Not an easy thing to have or use.

Even Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders is at a loss with freedom, using it to foment discord towards Islam.

Of course, thousands of Muslims worldwide have used their freedom to castigate Wilders and boycott Dutch-made goods, just as Dr Farish Noor uses the same freedom to criticise sharia judges/UMNO.

Freedom. We all can have and use it. Responsibly.

Making Sense of It

Oh.My.God.

In the new Malaysia, giving like, one's two sens is now out of the question from April Fool's Day. It is either zero sen or five sen. Like, ain't that the truth, dudes!

Well, babes, today is the day all of us like, get sooooooooo sworn in to the new Parliament although the rest will only get it done later. Oh My Gawd... All of us are now Members of Parliament. Awesome. YBBs we all are in the House of the People ;)

But gag me with a spoooooooooooon already! We hear now that the failures at UMNO are quick off the mark to dispose the 30 percent quota for nominations from party divisions for the posts of party president and deputy president.

Of course, like it started with the former lord and his sooooooo erstwhile nemesis Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. That's like democracy or what. As if!

Like, you don't see them that eager to drop the 30 percent quota for Bumiputera share of the capital equity, do you? Nooooooo, that just like ain't kosher! Fer sure!

We wonder when they will, like wake up and smell the coffee, not just the coffee money, in their own house.

Sunday Reading: The Lord made Malaysia

In the beginning - circa July 1981 - the Lord made Malaysia. And advanced time by 30 minutes.

The Lord then named and tagged the servants. And announced a clean, efficient and trustworthy government. Right. The prodigal son returned and was made shepherd of the youth.

And thus began the era of openness but the Lord's right hand man quit for personal reasons. The Lord's brow darkened and he launched his epoch of submission.

He took an old man of the hill, if not worldly wise, as his new assistant to remake his paradise called Malaysia, from an agrarian state to another state of mind, with roads, towers and fake trees built on dirt swept under the carpet.

But the whitebeards and wigs were concerned with his world vision and complained. The Lord was agitated and took counsel to tar and feather them. Some came back and one later blew his brains out.

The prodigal son continued his ascent as he shepherded the youth and spoke in tongues. The Lord let him approach the burning bush and cast aside the old man of the hill. All was good.

The prodigal son prospered just as other brothers did too. For the meek shall inherit the earth while the powerful got everything else.

But the son was ambitious and the Lord was not pleased, and thus as William Shakespeare wrote of Julius Caesar in Act III, "As he was valiant, I honour him, as he was ambitious, I slew him."

The Lord then picked a pious man to manage Malaysia. But the pious man had a Snow White-like apple to keep him asleep at the wheel.

The Lord was happy. He left Malaysia to its own devices with followers happy for the future and then upset with the past and present.

The Lord then forgot he was no longer the lord. He forgot a lot of things. But he never forgot Malaysia.

Which means we see the return of the Lord. Isn't that an amazing grace from the Lord? To save us wretched souls like no other could?

Said and Done

Apart from infernal ramblings about Terengganu, with a conclusion which we cannot agree to but somehow, it is said and done, as the business of the government of the day is more important than quibbling with the palace.

But it still leaves a bitter taste to the concept of a government of the people, of the people and for the people. It would seem that we have closet royalists, monarchists and definitely feudal-minded politicians in the plethora of political parties in Malaysia.

In addition to that, now comes the maelstorm in the man-made monsoon called Malaysia.

Mahathir Mohamad, former prime minister and a trenchant critic of the present prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi - it would seem that Mahathir is true to form in following former premiers-turned-critics just like Tunku Abdul Rahman and Hussein Onn - said this

"Unless there is a frame-up, I think there should be nothing to pin on me. Even other accusations against me, including the dismissal of judges, were not my doing and I do not feel obliged to apologise. Ask the Tribunal to apologise."

It is telling that his letter came out in the The Sun, now majority-owned by his acolyte Vincent Tan whose lawyer V. Kanagalingam is the subject of a tribunal which saw some five of those involved becoming lawmakers after the March 8 polls.

And it shows one thing.

The man is unrepentant and will not take the blame for all that has happened in his time that has fouled, festered and fermented to the perfect storm of March 8, 2008 including, inter alia, - the inequal implementation of economic policies and increasing Islamisation, apart from clipping the powers of the royalty and keeping Malaysians in the shadow of fear.

Fifty years on, as we said, the people are finally independent, the palace is independent but the politicians of old indifferent and still spinning the same old songs.

All said and done, the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) salutes the people and to a certain extent, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, for breaking the mold and showing the fallibility of his inheritance.

Cheeky, Indeed!

Yesterday, Jeff Ooi showed his true colours by suggesting the new Information Minister Shabery Cheek who wanted to "listen to bloggers" to meet with Rocky who is the head honcho for All-Blogs.

What true colours, one might ask?

Jeff Ooi misrepresents the people he tries to represent. And it seems to me that Jeff Ooi has only joined the Democratic "Eksyen" Party.

I wrote in May 2007 about how All-Blogs was already misrepresenting bloggers. And at that time the committee promised to come out with a constitution for all of us to decide on whether All-Blogs could be relevant to the Malaysia blogosphere.

Almost one year down the road, All-Blogs has already failed to complete the most important foundation of any society and the most basic: the society's Constitution and of course, to have members.

Suddenly Jeff Ooi's track record on organisation does not look so good and I fear for Penang as Jeff Ooi is the new Chief of Staff for Lim Guan Eng.

However, the blogosphere is not at lost. We have maddruid who also reminds us on what All-Blogs is actually is or rather what it is actually not, and A Voice who correctly points out to Shabery to seek us out at the SOPO.

However, such misrepresentation must stop! Otherwise we may have to punish people like Jeff Ooi by slapping his other cheek. Figuratively speaking and maybe literally too...

Sultans of Swing

As some flip-flop, attention is still centred on the tiny oil-rich sultanate of Terengganu where the palace and the politicians walk a tightrope between amity and anarchy.

There is an impasse that will take time to solve. The Sultan of Terengganu, as King of Malaysia, cannot interfere in the state Regency Council which has decided to appoint a chief minister who apparently does not have the majority support in the incoming state assembly.

Woe also to the ruling party's candidate who does not enjoy the support of the palace. Or from fellow UMNO division leaders who have now unsheathed daggers for the greater love of power than party.

Is there recalcitrance at both sides? What about the people of Terengganu? Didn't they decide to vote in a party that represents them in a constitutional monarchy? Isn't there any respect for them and their choice?

While some take delight in the Barisan Nasional's fall from grace, one must take cognisance of one fact. The Constitution is supreme and not the person on the throne.

There is respect for the throne for it is one of the stakeholders in Malaysia but people will come and go but not the constitution and the principles that led to the founding of this nation.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) believes that the sultans can swing, as others who think Penang is just Pak Lah's state and not Anwar Ibrahim's state - all things rotting from the days when he was the state UMNO chief.

But yes, Mahathir Mohamad said it well, "Melayu mudah lupa!"

We don't! The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) believes in a government of the people, by the people and for the people! And we shall swing from the rafters in defending that principle!

The Impotence of Being Earnest

Change is good. Change for the better even better.

But a change to the past where feudalism rules and where people swing to support the royalty and their decisions on our behalf plus their perceived infallibity is no change at all.

It is the impotence of being earnest for change without any idea or aim or objective or target but change itself.

Consider Terengganu, Perak, Perlis and Penang.

Everyone in the four states have been earnest to make changes but have shown the impotence of such changes.

Terengganu is in for a showdown between the palace and the proletariat and in Perak, the new Menteri Besar looks set to be a palace pawn as is possibly the case in Perlis.

While those who claim to be liberals and can live without the NEP are upset with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for his strident pronouncement of doing away with parts of the NEP that lead to corruption, cronyism for a particular community but ensure a fair and transparent system for all.

Apart from the completely unnecessary scrapping of summonses and fines in Penang and Perlis together with Selangor doing away with charges for the first 20 cubic metres of water for households.

Its populism gone amok. And again, the impotence of being earnest.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) does not agree with such moves at the various states. We want a break from the past, a break from populism but a break towards a Malaysia with Malaysians finally independent after 50 years of independence.

We owe nothing to the palace or the politicians. We owe it to ourselves to have a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Not for state rulers to decide on some whimsy to appoint their pawns or for politicians on some fancy to scrap fines or rates. We want substance not just sweet nothings like placebos to placate us.

We want - to borrow the words of Zaid Ibrahim - them to do the job, not keep the job!

A new song for bloggers

Hey, hey, hey. It's faaaaaaaat Mydeen !

Well, not really too fat, but definitely a little rounded. Mydeen should cut down on his daily intake of roti canai. Too big a belly and he won't be able to bow down and say, "Ampun, Tuanku" like Uncle Lim did.

But who wants to hear about Mydeen's dietary problems, today we were all on edge until Pak Lah announced his Cabinet. Well, maybe not a full cabinet. More like a small cupboard with it's greatly reduced membership partly because all Parliamentary Secretaries lost their jobs.

Yeah, it has been trimmed down, but then at 68 members, it is still about 50% of the 140 elected BN MPs which is about par for the course since in 2004 Pak Lah selected 91 BN MPs out of 198. Which means that close to 1 in every 2 BN parliamentarians would still be in the executive.

But today's posting isn't about the small cupboard. It's about blogs, who are now asking to be seen as accredited media. Mydeen spoke about this yesterday, when he said "And Oh, Fuck, the blogs are now going to think that they actually have reached the objectivity of a properly run news outlet.". Barely 3 and a half hours later, Zorro Unmasked demands that blogs have been vindicated and should be accredited media.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) asks, do they know what they are asking for and are they really ready for that ?

Being accredited media and operating like a proper entity of the Fourth Estate requires a lot of responsibility. It requires you to check your facts and not shoot off allegations and then demand that those allegations be proven wrong. Mydeen always believed that it's innocent until proven guilty, and that the accuser should provide the hard evidence of any accusations made, not the other way round.

It requires you to be able to stand up for what you have written, and not go crying to mommy when you are sued for publishing something without proper investigation. It requires you to be able to defend your allegations in court, for in doing so and winning, you would actually add to your credibility and integrity. Crying about freedoms of speech being denied just does not cut it, since the justice system in Malaysia allows for both sides to be heard. And yes, if bloggers want to be accredited media, then they must be ready to be sued and challenged on what they say, instead of censoring detractors.

It requires you to have some brakes, and some editorial policy for without it, there will be "No safety net. No brakes. No one there to question, doubt or inspire. No editor."

It requires you to give credit to your predecessors, the likes of M.G.G. Pillai and A. Ghani Ismail (aka Tok Guru), both of whom were taking advantage of internet publishing long before blogs even existed. Tun Mahathir may say "Melayu mudah lupa", but Mydeen says, "Bloggers mudah lupa" when they ignore the framework which was presented to them on a platter as they claim their supremacy in changing the political landscape.

It requires you to be honest and truthful in your agenda. There really is nothing wrong with being subjective and lopsided in your editorial policy, but in doing so, bloggers as accredited media have to be honest to their readers and declare their stand on issues.

Or as Greyman suggests, we could adopt an escape clause and ask about the motives behind disparaging a publication which could be a business rival to a news portal planned by a comrade in arms, under the guise of seeking clarity or responsibility. That would lack honesty and integrity. And both are virtues which bloggers claim they have in droves, and mainstream media does not.

But mainstream media, proper media, has a more comprehensive set of virtues at its core. And only when all of these are met, can bloggers aspire to accreditation.

1. Journalism's first obligation is to the truth

2. Its first loyalty is to citizens

3. Its essence is a discipline of verification

4. Its practitioners must maintain an independence from those they cover

5. It must serve as an independent monitor of power

6. It must provide a forum for public criticism and compromise

7. It must strive to make the significant interesting and relevant

8. It must keep the news comprehensive and proportional

9. Its practitioners must be allowed to exercise their personal conscience

If bloggers are unable to meet that, then just practise another artform. Make your readers laugh along with you, at the world around them and at their environment. Like the long lost Malay Male, who has made his return in his usual manner.

The public don't want to be fooled by what they see or hear. The public want challenges to preconceived ideas and to say goodbye to long standing fears. The public dont wanna play by the rules under the thumb of the cynical few. Or be laden down by the doom crew.

The public want a new song from bloggers, before they can aspire to accreditation.

The effect of the mainstream media, or the lack thereof

Much has been said about the impact of the internet on these general elections, and the surprise results it brought. But then, much was also said the first time around as well, when the Reformasi groundswell of 1999 took to the online world to get its message across. They didn't do too well then.

This time, DAP, PKR and PAS, had a better plan, a more cohesive plan, to get their message across to the 1.4 million or so new voters, all of whom are believed to be of the internet generation. And it seems to have worked, thanks in no small part to the disillusionment of mainstream media.

Before the elections however, a group of bloggers decided to push for a campaign to boycott the mainstream media, as they were tired of the one-sided bias towards BN-led information to the detriment of DAP,PKR and PAS activities. While only a mere 965 signatures have been gathered in this campaign, many are trumpeting that this has been a crucial factor in the fall of the BN's political supremacy.

They could be right, to an extent. In information theory, when a void presents itself, then whatever arises to fill the void becomes the defacto source of information. And as long as there is no counterbalance to this, the dichotomy will continue with the polarization of different beliefs and different webs of trust to the different sources of information. Goebbels could not have said it better, but in this instance the mainstream media, the blogs and alternative media practised what he preached. They all gave distorted versions of the facts, thereby blurring the lines between the Third and Fourth Estates.

Within this mutually distorted miasma, the people of Malaysia made their choices on March 8, 2008. As Mydeen overheard one of his customers say, the headlines on Sunday should have read Oh, Fuck !.

A collective Oh, fuck by the BN because they lost, and they lost big.

A collective Oh, fuck by DAP, PKR and PAS because they won, and now what the fuck do they do ?

A collective Oh, fuck by the voters, because they had not planned on providing such a large swing.

Oh, fuck.

And Oh, Fuck, the blogs are now going to think that they actually have reached the objectivity of a properly run news outlet. Already some have begun to trumpet the election of a blogger into Parliament, claiming superlative glory in the process.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) asks, were they elected because they were bloggers or were votes thrown at them because the people wanted a change from the BN ? After all, even the self-proclaimed representative body of the bloggers, AllBlogs, has yet to get a mandate from its consitutency by holding elections for their office bearers.

And when bloggers, who masquerade as journalists in the day, use their pulpit to turn untrue assumptions into fact, where then lies the objectivity in facts which the people crave ?

Shanghai Fish, based obviously on beer talk, has suggested that he is privy to insider information. MalaysianInsider information, that is. He links to an article from the NST, and tries to suggest a linkage. However, even a cursory reading of the article would expose two fallacies he is trying to perpetuate. Something does smell of rotten fish here, but then it always has when the void exists.

A blog, or a newspaper, is only as good as the people behind it and the credibility they bring with them. When any news outlet, blog or otherwise, is managed by individuals with the morals of a viper, you would expect the information to be distorted to serve personal gains, such as a public show of support for a comrade who was unceremoniously dumped by the entity being disparaged. Just as the herd mentality takes root.

So, while some blogs and alternative news outlets will attempt to objectively present the facts not covered by the biasness inherent in the mainstream media, not all of them should be consumed as the gospel truth. Like an intelligent citizenry, we should allow ourselves to be exposed to the different views and then decide for ourselves, not to fall into the trap of believing that whatever fills a void has to be, by definition, the fact.

To do so would be tantamount to listening to lies disseminated by a man in masquerade. And honestly, that'll be a drag.

All your base

Yes folks, fresh from our recent electoral victory, we at the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) have been doing some thinking and strategizing for a better Malaysia, just as we promised our electorate.

Yes, we did say just placing an X on the ballot sheet was enough to constitute a vote for us. And you, the people, listened to us. What an overwhelming show of support, nearly 8 million of you came out and put the pangkah where you should. Truly, we're humbled by your confidence in our lineup of candidates.

We never expected it to swing this way, but then, neither did anyone else. But it has swung, and we now have to live with what has happenned, for good or for bad.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) fully intends to take the bull by its horns, and deliver on what we have promised. With the overwhelming majority in Xs that we have, we can do this. However, our belief is also that we need to be inclusive and bring all stakeholders into the fold. We would like Malaysia to be for Malaysians, and to be run by Malaysians with Malaysia at heart. We do not want petty political considerations to ruin the business of making Malaysia right again. Neither will we allow our nation to be threatened by those who have only their interests at heart.

So, in all humility, we would invite our counterparts Parti Undi Rosak (PUNDAK) to join us in forming a coalition government. We do realise that though a lot of you did go out an place an X for us, many of you also didnt know where to place the X or chose to place other less than politically correct symbols on the ballot box. That was a vote for PUNDAK, and we respect their legitimacy in that matter. However, since they were not able to win in any constituency, we still think that the principle of One Man, One Vote applies.

We think that between the legitimate Xs and the undi rosak, the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) and PUNDAK have taken 100% of the popular vote, thereby eradicating the imbalance caused by the first past the post system as used in Malaysia. Discussions are now underway with PUNDAK representatives on this, but we do not forsee any showstopper issues.

So, to the people of Malaysia, thank you for giving us such an overwhelming mandate. We promise to be what you think we are, for now all your base are belong to us.

Changes

Election results notwithstanding, now what?

There's many a drama being played out from Ipoh/Kuala Kangsar to Kuala Lumpur. More than that, there are other changes in the air.

Race-based parties appear to be going the way of the dodo though some try to gather forces for another attempt at being relevant although others see the irrelevance. But the blame game remains.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) believes in ringing in the changes. Yes, let's change the politics of the country, let's do away with racist/racialist/community/ethnic-centric policies that divide rather than united.

We have the poor and they are all Malaysians, poor in wealth, poor in health, poor in knowledge and generally poor in dealing with the future. Let's enrich them and let's get everyone on board, not just any one distinct group or community.

In that regard and in the aftermath of March 8, 2008, let's do away with state constitutions that are racist in nature where chief ministers can only be from one community, one faith.

Fact is, how can anyone who is not elected but gains position by blood anoint/appoint a chief executive of the state? Somehow, that seems so wrong.

For those who have castigated the DAP decision to stay away from the Perak MB's swearing-in, ask yourself if you have voted in a democracy. And what a democracy means. How can anyone allow such an injustice in the name of democracy?

This is pathetic. As is the overnight absence of allegations of vote-rigging because some parties have won - and won big - in the weekend elections. Those voices that malign and indict without evidence are muted after the victory.

Hypocrisy reigns supreme before and after the elections. There are changes but somethings have not changed.

We remain a pathetic compromising lot. We are all the poorer once again. For not standing up for democracy just days after voting with our feet to register our protest, our disgust with how matters have been sliding over the years.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) is disappointed. The changes made have not been magical enough to transform the nation and its citizens. Same old same old. Damn!

Yeah. A little ho(a)rse - shouting, cajoling, pleading, hectoring, castigating, laughing, smiling and generally abusing their vocal cords for support while others get cash to keep the campaign going. Some pluck guitar strings to tug at heart strings for a vote or at least a sympathetic ear to their cause.

Then there are those quietly confident of victory while others get a boost in support.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M)? We won five and are now going for other seats. Just an X by all voters and we are a shoo-in to win the other seats. Our manifesto has found resonance, yet there are other issues we need to cover and reassure that we remain a party that cares for all.

For example, we have previously said we will cut the civil service by half but having seen the crime index shoot up over the past two years, we now intend to turn most of the General Operations Force and the Federal Reserve Unit personnel into general duty policemen.

We believe this can free up about 10 percent of the current 90,000-strong police force apart from on-going efforts to get the uniformed personnel who do administrative work to actually patrol the streets.

We also want to get the breweries to reduce beer prices. Nothing better than affordable beer to keep one straight and narrow and totally sober.

Well, that is our experience in Langkawi, Labuan and now Tioman whenever we go for parties. Beer to cheap that we just want to drink water.

Also, more importantly, we discovered that there are many of the Christian faithful fretting about the creeping Islamisation in the country and the banning of the word Allah. While we oppose this arbitrary banning, we think it is not a reason to migrate or claim oppression.

Come on, wouldn't you make some noise if the ruling coalition made it mandatory to use the word Allah. So get with the programme and punish the ruling parties, put the X for us.

After all, every vote is sacred.

Since we released our manifesto and party symbol, we've had quite a few supporters tell us that they would vote for us, uncontested or not. We at the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) would like to thank you for your support, and we will endeavour to serve you better in Parliament, now that we have 5 times more YBBs than we had in the last session. Yes, we want you. For without you, there can be no elections and there can be no democratic process, as we are all guaranteed in the constitution.

As the campaigning period runs into its closing phase, all the contesting parties are going to be saying they want you. They will promise development, a change in how things are done and even a bright and rosy future for you and your kids. They will plead, beg, threaten, cajole and mislead, all in the name of getting your mandate this Saturday. They will even get folk who are supposed to be unbiased to tell their side of the story.

They want you, and they want you real bad. As a voter, you are not going to be sucked up to like this for the next five years, so make the best of it. Ask the right questions, and more importantly, remember what was promised and not delivered. You don't want to be making the same mistakes now, do you ?

If you're still confused after all the differing policies and manifestos, just go to the ballot and place your X, for that in itself would be a vote for the Siber Party of Malaysia (M). Don't worry, transportation has been arranged. And you can now look all pretty and dolled up by painting your nails, since the EC has made policy reversal #2,482,339 and decided not to use indelible ink to ensure that double voting does not happen. Maybe we should all show them the finger anyway, just to let them know what we think.

And when that's done with, go home and watch a DVD or five, after all, it wont be long before DVDs will be as scarce as honest politicians with the Replacement for the Bitches. Inspite of that animal world record, the chickens are apparently not happy with the announcement that their income will be cut. They had better not be complaining too much before they find themselves sleeping with abundant fishes.

UnLosing the Plots

Newsflash: So the the use of indelible ink is now canceled by the SPR.

The reason given was because similar ink was imported by individuals which in turn could lead to abuse by forcing the use of the ink prior to the elections on rural voters who are unable to understand the use of the ink properly.

Thus to avoid potential confusion and public disorder, the use of the indelible ink is canceled.

What seems to be something akin to an elaborate ploy of cheating by the parties in power according to the opposition parties, we at SiPM yawn at such allegations.

As we have stated before, "the four-point Bersih memorandum, to clean up the electoral rolls, use indelible ink, abolish postal votes and further access to the media did not have the single most important reform of all in the country."

To promote democracy and fairness at its best altruism, SiPM advocates a One Man One Vote system and this is what we will implement when in power.

Only when the rakyat is properly represented, will fairness try to take on its best form.

Speaking of unfairness, yesterday the courts jailed Kamariah Ali for two years for apostasy.

Unbeknown to the Malays, they are THE most repressed race in this country.

Compared to other Malaysians, only the Malays are unable to choose their own religion and are coerced to accept only one faith or face detention.

Worse still one may have to succumb to hypocrisy and worship privately away from overzealous eyes.

This is why SiPM will also not agree with the opposition's stand "to revive the 1957 Constitution", where the Malays are defined as being Muslims.

One can always change one's religion but not one's race.

To not have the Constitution being amended too many times is one thing, but SiPM aims to redress this glaring setback for the Malays.

The party in power and the opposition are losing the plot.

Vote for SiPM and you won't lose your right for fair representation nor lose your religion.

Two wrongs do make a right

Hello, hello, hello.

As you've all been aware by now, all Siber Party of Malaysia (M) candidates were returned unopposed in their respective constituencies. We are thrilled at having increased our representation by 500%. You'll now see YBB Dek Mat, YBB Mat Merah, YBB Tatak Sombong and me joining our Chief Whip YBB Minah Black in Parliament. That girl needs company, if you know what I mean.

While we're absolutely ecstatic at the party's showing this time around, we think that it would have been better to actually have to compete just to allow our constituents to exercise their constitutional right to pangkah the ballot paper. Quite obviously, due to us being uncontested, our constituents were denied their time-off from work to mengundi for us. That's 4 hours of productivity they could not skivvy off from. What a waste !

Moving forward though, we think that though we are all parliamentarians now, we still owe it to our constituents and the people of Malaysia to tell them what we stand for. Hence the release of our manifesto, The Power of 4G.

We now think that why bother just stopping at denying the 2/3 majority, after all, what can we do without the mandate to govern the nation ? So as our Chief Whip announced yesterday, we are going for broke and standing in the other seats we have yet to secure. Like we told our good friend Hafiz, we reaffirm our stand that bloggers shouldnt be elected just because they are bloggers, but because they will make good parliamentarians and stand for something their constituents believe in.

And unlike Jeff Ooi, we will not ask to ban race based parties either. After all, wouldn't doing that be tantamount to eroding the rights of freedom of association ? If birds of a feather want to flock together, then let them by all means. You'll just get a lot of noise and a lot of avian doodoo falling from the trees.

So, I am proud to unveil our electoral poster and the party symbol in the coming March 8th elections. We've decided to keep it simple, and done away with complex symbols. Going black and white will ease our financial burden during campaigning, for not all of us are able to raise RM113,000 through donations from birds of a feather. We'll only be raising funds through Mydeen's mamak shop, where RM0.10 from every teh tarik purchased will go towards SiPM campaign funds. While Mydeen does sell a lot of teh tariks, that still won't be enough for a full fledged publicity campaign.

So, without much fanfare, do allow us to unveil our party symbol, the humble X. Just turning up at the polling booth and placing an X on the ballot paper would be a vote for the Siber Party of Malaysia (M).

A simple X, that's all it takes to let us know that you want us. Remember, you the people, have got the power.

Petrolhead populism

Sometimes, its the little things that count notwithstanding the weightage one puts to it.

And so, after perusing through the manifestos of most if not all the political parties, particularly the DAP and PKR, we get a feeling that its nothing more than petrolhead populism. At least the promise to cut toll charges and pump prices.

You know, we actually won't mind that. But its empty promises because in the same breath, they say deny the ruling coalition the two-thirds majority. Guess they are actually looking at incremental change.

We think otherwise.

We propose to increase pump prices for all fossil fuels except natural or compressed natural gas used in all modes of transport. Fact is, we would even give incentives for hybrid or electric-powered vehicles.

Current emission levels in Malaysia is already turning our pristine blue skies grey at certain times of the year, although some of it can be attributed to neighbouring nations. The fact remains, we need to cut down emission levels to enhance air quality and delay climate change.

And we would like to maintain toll charges at current levels. As it is, the lattice-work of highways criss-crossing the country has encouraged a growth in the number of cars on the road. We need to reduce that, to reduce emission levels and even road accidents.

Instead, we propose to use savings from the lack of subsidies to finance better public and goods transport using clean and green energy where possible. The other parties can talk about preserving the environment but we haven't seen any plans yet.

Planting flags, stringing buntings and pasting posters won't help. We need vision. We need action.

Those who want short-term gains, like cheap fuel and toll charges, are like the same politicians who want a short-cut to power for their own ends and not for the interest of the public and future generations.

Think about it. And vote the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) if you want more than just cheap fuel, cheap tolls and cheap talk.

Things are looking super duper for the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) as we have won all our parliamentary seats uncontested!!! Awesome!

So I wanna like say congratulations and felicitations to SiPM's four new parliamentarians: Yang Bukan Blogger (YBB) Dek Mat of Kencing Setan (P.666), YBB Tatak Sombong of Sungei Wang (P.888), YBB Mat Merah of File Not Found (P.404) and YBB Mydeen Aboo Backer of Mamak Maju (P.786).

And of course congratulations and felicitations to me too for successfully defending my seat. Like duhh!

And more good news!

We are like absolutely ecstatic with the results and we have decided to like to go allll the way and contest in all Parliament Seats.

And of course all you guys and gals out there will want to know hey what else right?

Unlike the other parties in Malaysia, SiPM is soo committed to lead Malaysia into new heights, and depriving Barisan Nasional their 2/3 majority will result in no change, like come on! How can you make changes in Parliament if the opposition has less than 2/3?? Its like, got to be total, man! Now wouldn't that be totally rad!

Denying BN the 2/3 majority would like preserve the status quo in Parliament - nothing would move and all would be bogged down with politicking and not the business of running the country.

Fact is, Status quo should just remain a band from the 70s.

Oh.My.God! Why couldn't they think of this?

Between the Axes

Between the devil and the deep blue sea. Depending who you are, the devil and the deep blue sea could be either of the axes that want to lay claim to prime ministership and majority in parliament and thus rule Malaysia.

Yes. The Axis of the Decrepit and Decayed against the Axis of the Disparate and Desperate. Which be the devil and which be the deep blue sea?

Well, at least some of the parties/axes have released their manifestos, the ruling BN, the DAP, PAS, some bloggers called the Barisan Rakyat while Keadilan Rakyat will do so on February 26, 2008.

A cursory look at both the BN and DAP manifestos reveal that some 43.5 billion ringgit have been spent in 2007 in subsidies while the DAP is promising some 40 billion ringgit to be credited directly to those earning 3,000 ringgit a month or families earning 6,000 ringgit a month.

Subsidies. While the BN's model benefits all - rich or poor, the DAP's proposals will only benefit those who earn within the parameters mentioned. Funny, those who pay taxes under the DAP proposal will still have to pay and pay with no benefit. Quite true to their socialist roots, innit?

Nope, none of the axes are talking about taxes.

Well, for benefit of the good people - who have elected the entire slate of Siber Party of Malaysia (M) candidates (Did you see, hear or read anyone contesting in the five seats we are in?) - and those who will on March 8, 2008 - let us give you a glimpse of our manifesto.

You know what we can do! And you know our feelings and philosophies. No race-based or faith-based policies but an inclusive policy for all Malaysians, even those with faith or the faithless.

We will care for all.

More than that, in response to Hafiz Noor Shams - our favourite mad druid - we would like to point out something quite fundamental about the Siber Party of Malaysia (M).

We are not bloggers! Yes! Shocking but true. We are not bloggers!

While we read blogs and we do operate a blog, it is only our platform and website to inform the good citizens of Malaysia about our views and policies on matters that concern all Malaysians.

Which also means we are not going to support a blogger because he or she is a blogger. we want to know their stand, their approach, their policies, philosophies, politics on all things Malaysian and the world.

It is not good enough to be a blogger to get support. For that matter, it is not good enough to stand for elections and expect or cajole or persuade or threaten to get support.

Tell us what you can and will do. Promises are double-edged swords that can be used for good or evil.

Heroes and Zeroes

What can we say? We have been away for a while now, plotting our election campaign since we got wind of the 11th Parliament's dissolution from YB Maya Minah Black a while ago.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) will fully participate in the 12th General Elections without any pacts with other parties be it the Barisan Nasional or those who want one-on-one contests. Politics is for the people and the more the merrier, we say!

Therefore, the rest of us in the party are joining YB Maya Minah Black - hmmm, she isn't a YB anymore now that the Dewan Rakyat is dissolved but what the hell... - to contest in the coming vote.

How to vote for us? Simple. Every time a voter crosses a box, that is a vote for us. After all, our symbol is the X but we cannot display it now as it is against Malaysian election rules. But it will be done after nomination day this Sunday.

Minah Black is set to stand in her old constituency of P. 000 - Tempat Maya. The rest of us will contest in the following constituencies: Mydeen Aboo Backer (P. 786 - Mamak Maju), Dek Mat (P. 666 - Kencing Setan), Tatak Sombong (P. 888 - Sungai Wang) and Mat Merah (P. 404 - File Not Found).

As you can see, we foresee a lack of contests for the seats that we have chosen to make our stand.

But of course, zeroes can be heroes and over the course of the next few days, the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) will unveil its manifesto and economic plans to make Malaysia a virtual paradise.

The rest can just fight among each other and produce videos for all we care.

What's in a name ?

A lot apparently.

A recent Cabinet ruling has meant that the word Allah can only be used in reference to God according to the Islamic faith. No one else can use Allah to refer to God. While some may ask what the big deal is about, after all a god by any other name is still a god now, isn't it ?

While the Constitution guarantees us the right to practise the faith of our choice, it apparently does not give us the right to call our deities by a name we choose. Especially since Allah has been used to reference the god of the Abrahamic faiths, Christianity and Jewism, since pre-Islam times. One wonders if this ruling by the cabinet is a prelude to G.O.D., a Government Ordained Deity ? Are we moving from one nation under God to one God over the nation ?

Coming as it is so close to the general elections, this then becomes a political minefield which candidates from both sides of the fence will have to grapple with. A minefield because some may perceive this line of questioning to questioning the position of Islam as the national religion. It may also reopen the earlier debate on whether Malaysia is a secular nation.

SiPM believes that everyone has a right to practise his own faith, and everyone has a right to call his deities by any name he chooses be it Allah, God, Jesus, Krishna, Vishnu or just Bob. We shouldn't be legislating these things for religion is a personal and spiritual thing to each individual and people tend to take these things, well, quite religiously.

In fact, some members of our original people in Borneo have used organic methods to spiritually bond with their god. Mydeen has faith in these things, because as we all know, Mydeen uses some high quality organic greens in his fish curry to complement the underwear.

So let's all sit back, practise our faiths in any form which we need, and lets all call a God a God.

In Camera

One would have hoped for better things to come from Chua Soi Lek's confession and apology, but no, its more of the same shenanigans from all and sundry.

Ng Yen Yen would like us to throw away any copies of Chua's sex DVD while Opposition taikoh Lim Kit Siang has castigated deputy prime minister Najib Abdul Razak for asking political leaders to behave and not embarrass the ruling coalition.

Well, at least only Chua's political career was killed outright from this episode, not some Mongolian model. Talk about blowing up an issue.

Enough said.

Interestingly, what happened to Chua Soi Lek, and even D.P. Vijandren or recently the case of the correct! correct! correct! senior lawyer is an interesting twist to the Latin term in camera.

Yes, something that happens in chambers and away from the prying eyes of those not concerned with the matter.

Sorry! That happened but in the modern context of a camera, everyone else gets a peek of it.

What is more interesting is that Chua himself does not feel remorse for what he did, after all if one does get a chance to view the said DVD, one would notice that a laptop is featured prominently suggesting that the couple were watching themselves coupling.

And unknown to them, others were capturing the coupling too.

The crux of the matter is, like in the case of the senior lawyer and even the former deputy speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, that this is an invasion of privacy and the perpetrators caught and brought to justice.

The police would do well to forget regaining the videos of either Chua, Vijandren or even the senior lawyer in the market. Is that as important as ensuring that what happens in camera remains private and not in any camera for public viewing?

We in the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) don't think so. Their indiscretions and lack of remorse show them for what they are but more importantly, privacy has to be maintained and respected. That is our basic right!

Let's not have The Big Brother in the system to keep watch over us or tell us the name of our Supreme Maker!

A New Hope for Malaysians ?

Hot on the heels of the former Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, comes the latest DVD blockbuster for Uncle Ho and his minions to distribute. Yes folks, it's now the turn of former Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek to have a starring role of his own. And what a role it was.

A personal friend, he says she was. And it does seem like all's well in Casa Chua, as his wife and family will stand by him. But all's not well in the MCA.

No, not well at all. A quick presidential council meeting, and before you can say "Correct, correct, correct", the man has resigned from all government, party and Parliamentary positions, including as the MP for Labis. A by-election perhaps, or will this force Pak Lah's hand in calling for that January elections everyone thinks he'll be doing ?

But hey, the election rhumba has already started. Over at MIC HQ, the man himself has promised a revamp of the MIC. Of course, with the brickbats he's been getting at his public appearances, Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu must be courageous to face the global conference for People of Indian Origin while the 5 chaps who started Hindraf are still under ISA detention. Definitely no beer drafts for them over at Kamunting.

But what's happenning at UMNO, the largest of the BN component parties ? Pak Lah's elegant silence has worn off its elegance, and the infighting for positions has already begun for the next elections. One wonders, if the chaps over at the fourth floor are planning something. Or not.

All in all, it will turn out to be an interesting year ahead indeed. As Malaysians wonder if we will get a New Hope for the coming year, or if the Jedi will finally triumph over the Sith and their minions, let's throw on some oversized pants, lots of bling and party like there's no tomorrow.

Kulliyah Sabtu (Terlepas Jumaat da...): Allah itu Tuhan

Tidak seperti tahun yang lepas, SiPM tidak berkorban apa-apa botol, mungkin kerana supply kami tersekat akibat banjir yang melanda Malaysia baru baru ini.

Tetapi tidak mengapa. Tahun ini kita ada ibadah korban yang sangat istimewa kerana hari ini Timbalan Menteri Keselamatan Dalam Negeri telah mengorbankan akhbar migguan Katolik Herald kerana mengikut Johari akhbar mingguan tersebut telah menggunakan perkataan "Allah" untuk Tuhan.

Johari apabila ditemuramah oleh malaysiakini berkata, “Hanya orang Muslim saja boleh pakai "Allah". Ia perkataan Arab. Kita tidak boleh kasi ugama lain pakai kerana ia akan mengelirukan orang ramai."

“Kita tak boleh benarkan perkataan "Allah" ini dipakai oleh satu penerbitan bukan Islam, kecuali untuk orang Islam sahaja. Apabila perkatan "Allah" itu dipakai oleh orang Kaotlik, ini salah"

Tetapi apabila kita meng-google-kan topik ini, kita mendapat tahu bahawa perkataan "Allah" itu telah dipakai oleh orang Arab Kristian 500 tahun sebelum adanya Islam.

Johari... Johari, kalau dia jadi menteri di negeri timur tengah, habis orang arab kristian merusuh! Naya kita!

Agaknya apabila sesetengah ahli politik membaca atau mendengar benda yang pelik, mungkin ini yang dibayangkan mereka! ;)

Love Is My Religion

So the Indian NGOs have made their request to the Prime Minister for a Non-Muslim Affairs Department and Najib responded that the government will look into it.

The Deputy Minisiter said, "We have the Islamic Affairs Department in the PM's Department because Islam is our official religion".

He also said, “We don’t have similar posts for a non-Islamic Affairs Department. However, we also give equal concern to other faiths, including fulfilling their needs for places of worship and other related matters."

It may seem simple enough and an acceptable explanation but a quick look at the almost 60 Prime Minister's Departments and Offices we also have

Department of Syariah Judiciary
Department of Zakat, Wakaf and Haji
Institute of Islamic Understanding
Pilgrims Fund Board
Syariah Court of Federal Territory

Unlike the present party in power, SiPM will not need to find a right mechanism to help non-muslims as we will not hesitate to implement a Non Muslim Affairs Department, because that is simply what they want and it's a good thing... so do vote for us! :)

But we will not stop there, we will also implement a Department of Love, because at SiPM, love is our religion.

Kulliyah Jumaat: Keeping Up with the Joneses

Lawyers, Bersih, Hindraf, some more lawyers and Bersih. So who's next?

Before we know it, Hindraf may need to recruit mamaks into their fold and the 66 NGO representing Bersih maybe be desperate for volunteers as both organisations will have leaders and supporters being hauled into jail.

At one hypothetical extreme, the prison system will be filled to the brim and just maybe, new multi hundred million ringgit contracts will be dished out for new detention facilities for illegal protestors.

But back to real life, the Barisan Nasional government has not only caught trouble makers and put them in jail, but they too have NGOs, all 350 of them, condemning street protests and encourages the government to do what ever is necessary to keep Malaysia 'peaceful'.

So there you have it, predicting people->government scenarios

apply for permit for demo -> don't give one
participate in an illegal demo -> gas and shower them with chemicals
have 66 NGOs sign memorandum -> have 350 NGOs sign memorandums

The list can go on but we must consider that this kind of keeping up with the Joneses is inevitably self-destructive, for both sides of the divide.

So what can the fence sitters do? Vote for SiPM! for we don't believe in keeping up with the Joneses this way but we would definitely have a go at Mrs Jones. After all all of us should make love not war right? ;)

Are the Indians revolting?

In light of what happened on November 25, 2007 with the Hindraf Rally, for all reincarnations of that question and all those who ask that question, the answer is yes and no!

As Hindraf leaders start their global tour to tell and shame, Malaysian politicians from all sides of the divide are piling on against each other to score points while others crack jokes about the rally and sub-segments of the Indian diaspora in Malaysia, eg.

# Ceylonese have formed CINDRAF demanding the government on the following: reduce coconut price - soothy is very costly; reduce hair cut price - most of the mamas and machans are bald; most of them go to Court Hill Pilliyar Temple, they demand to join the Mariamman Temple board (to become Vasul Raja like Datuk Natarajah). Please support them and pass this message to all makkals.

# Malayalees have formed MINDEF, demanding that aviyils and kottus are made cheaper, otherwise they will fuck up the Gulf.

# Punjabis are considering to form PUNDRAF, demanding for higher price for milk, higher interest rates for the money-lending business, higher wages for security services while asking for subsidies for ghee and atta flour imported from Australia. Please support them and pass this message to all sardajis.

But pointing fingers and making demands is not the answer. The answer is to solve the ills that the Indian community (read Tamils) who are in the lower classes of society who have been represented by the MIC but to no avail.

In fact, one can say that the MIC has been an impediment to their community's progress in Malaysia unlike the other communities. Having said that, the community has its share of professionals and thinkers - a case of too many chiefs and too few Indians.

Lest we are accused of racism, the fact is that there are several political parties to represent seven percent of 26 million people. We count at least four that have Indians as their main ethnic composition apart from a few other multi-racial political parties.

So their cause remains fractured but the other sub-segments of the Indian diaspora unable to find a voice in MIC or the other parties are doing pretty well, in spite the New/National Economic Policy.

Be that as it may, we think the first step is going beyond Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's big ears and getting him as leader of the government of the day - to go to the ground and listen to their grouses.

Fact is, the Indians do not form any majority in any parliamentary or state constituencies but they can just almost make a difference as seen in the Ijok by-election.

But they are Malaysians and are equal before law and eligible for aid and support under the New Economic Policy.

What could help? A smart person who can weigh the issues and come up with solutions.

A man called Razak, actually!.

In the aftermath of the May 13th riots in 1969, Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman had his deputy Abdul Razak Hussein to handle matters, giving birth to the New Economic Policy.

Now Abdul Razak's son, Najib, is deputy prime minister and could possibly be the Razak to Abdullah. However, Najib is no Razak but has had a Razak at his disposal.

The real Razak required is none other than Abdul Razak Baginda - a clever fellow who is now facing a murder conspiracy charge. In all the years he has served Najib, Razak has been the man who could see the heart of the problem and offer solutions.

But he is not available. And the government of the day will have to figure out something.

The Siber Party of Malaysia (M) would just say the simplest thing to do is to listen. Whether with MIC leader S. Samy Vellu around or without him. Listen to the grouses, explain what has been done and what can be done.

The last thing we need is threats and counter-threats. It won't solve the problems of the Indian community and the poor in other communities.

We are all Malaysians and this is a Malaysian problem. Not just one race or one faith. For that would indeed be revolting.

Anwar's Back But...

Like, Did you see him? My Baldwin - Anwar Ibrahim - I mean. The last, like, time I saw him in action was nine years ago when he left Merdeka Square on the back of a motorcycle in a hurry.

And like, there he was again last Saturday, dressed in fabulous yellow on a motorcycle cutting through the crowd at the National Palace.

OhMyGodOhMyGawwddd!!! What a dish! What a dreamboat!

So, what now?

Like, what are we to make of this, you know? Like, he wants to be the dashing saviour of the tanahair?

Like, we are waiting you know? For solutions, ideas, proposals, like not pie-in-the-sky kinda talk but the real concrete stuff.

Otherwise, whateverrrrrrrrrrr, everyone will go vote for the devil they know, know what I am saying?

So, Anwar's back but... like, nothing concrete by way of providing an alternative. Gag me with a s SPOOOON already!

Bringing the crowd out is one thing but turning that into a force is another. Like, it could be a farce in a while!

And baby, if nothing happens, you'll be, unlike the Liverpool anthem, walking alone!

Yellow Yellow Dirty Fellow

Everybody was a winner and loser at the Bersih rally in Kuala Lumpur on November 10, 2007.

The crowd. The political parties. The police. All winners and losers, according to the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) analysis of events in the yellow Saturday.

First, the rally and gathering showed the organisational network and acumen of the Parti Islam Se-Malaysia in mobilising its members and marshals on the ground, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat cunning in planning and hijacking the event and Democratic Action Party plus activists in riding along for the action.

But while they won on that score and sent the memorandum to the National Palace, they lost on garnering a larger crowd from Kuala Lumpur. Most of the crowd were hard-core Parti Islam Se-Malaysia supporters who were left stranded when the police cordoned off Merdeka Square.

But Keadilan Rakyat and the Demoractic Action Party failed to bring in the crowd - a reflection of their skills and network. Their vaunted media communication skills were also left wanting as activists involved in the rally were not disciplined enough to send out reports through all channels, leaving bloggers and others to rely on foreign news agencies for updates.

That move revealed the police's successful single-minded strategy to keep Merdeka Square free of demonstrators notwithstanding that their initial charge using water cannons and tear gas forced the crowd to outflank them and still head for the National Palace.

While the Campbell area police kept their patch defended, their moves left the Brickfields area police under pressure to contain the crowd. Cooler heads and a lack of personnel facilitated the crowd to move towards the National Palace.

So both sides came out winners and losers.

But Malaysia lost the day! The four-point Bersih memorandum, to clean up the electoral rolls, use indelible ink, abolish postal votes and further access to the media did not have the single most important reform of all in the country.

And that would be a one man, one vote system!

After all, aren't we supposed to be equal in all aspects. Perhaps the existing political parties are still engrossed in their quotas and horse-trading for seats around the nation to figure out the simple steps to move Malaysia forward.

Perhaps Bersih and the politicians behind them were more interested in scoring points to prove their relevance but we think not! We in the Siber Party of Malaysia expect more than the simple points given by Bersih.

That is just their excuse for a show of force. Especially by Anwar Ibrahim in forging an alliance with Parti Islam Se-Malaysia and the Democratic Action Party to show his relevance and importance in national politics.

But he looks like the dirty fellow, hijacking the event here and overseas to shower glory on himself. Time will tell if he has cleaned up his act.

As for the others, were they riding together or being taken on a ride? Your guess is as good as ours but we would say don't fall for the hype from yellow Saturday. Time will tell.

Running of the Fools

In Pamplona and across other towns in Spain, they have the annual running of the bulls with the ever present danger of being gored or stampeded and trampled. Oh what fun!

In Malaysia, however, we have the the annual running of the fools, ie. the annual United Malays National Organisation (Baru) where one is in danger of being bored to death as their members stampede for favours and positions, trampling most Malaysian rights and possibly the constitution in the process.

This year was no different except the tail-end on November 9 had the excitement of a warning against a planned march on November 10 by a group called Bersih to the National Palace in Kuala Lumpur calling for free and fair legislative elections.

Well, let's first dissect the UMNO (Baru) general assembly and its salient points of preparing for the general elections widely expected to be called within the next six months despite the current parliament ending May 2009.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's son-in-law, deputy UMNO (Baru) Youth Chief and everyone's favourite spleen-venting personality Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar called for the ending of fuel subsidies that cost the nation coffers up to 80 billion ringgit annually.

Great. Except now they want to propose a two-tier fuel price system for the poor and rich. Err... despite the fact that there is a seven percent discount for Bumiputeras buying houses, aren't we all supposed to be equal before the law, constitution etc?

Won't a two-tier fuel price system lead to abuse with the poor buying more for the rich to use? Shouldn't we all just pay the market price and learn to adjust to the reality of the rising prices of commodities and other products?

What the hell are these guys in government thinking about?

Then we have some UMNO (Baru) Wanita delegate pontificating about the Air Asia stewardess' uniforms being too revealing. Here's a tip, use another airline if you don't want to see the flesh.

You actually have a choice, you do know that, don't you? Unless you think the real world does not have choices like yourself in deciding which airline or television station to choose from?

Which brings us to the greatest editor of all time, Zainuddin Maidin, castigating Parliamentary Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang on the contents of his blog. Edit and censor comments in a blog?

Isn't that old media? Or does Zainuddin actually think Kit Siang is like the apparently influential blogger Jeff Ooi with his --deleted-- comments system?

But then, Kit Siang and his ilk in Bersih are no better, appealing to the monarchy - not quite the paragons of democracy themselves - to ensure there is free and fair elections.

Come on! Nine men, whose only exposure to elections is to choose among themselves to be the Supreme Head of the Federation for five years, are hardly the ones who can guarantee our democracy.

And for that matter, to wear yellow and march to the palace. What gives?

Aren't these people plagiarising the colour from the Thais? Or is maroon already taken by the Myanmarese, blue by Barisan Nasional?

Still, we believe its everyone's right to march and demand for their rights. And the police have no right to stop them but to facilitate such a procession. Of course, they didn't and we had another running of the fools in the city centre today.

Where is the love?

Trick or Treat

Its a few days after Halloween, when a fair number of people got into the spirit - pun intended - of things in Malaysia by dressing up as ghouls, ghosts and god-knows-what and carrying lit-up plastic jack o'lanterns in place of the real pumpkin.

Apart from that, trick or treats in Malaysia are taking on a whole new character.

Last night, at the DAP Petaling Jaya fund-raising dinner in Kota Damansara, several speakers took to the floor and told those present what they already know, that Malaysia is a sorry excuse of a state under the Barisan Nasional government and things can only get worse but possibly in a decade, the opposition can form a viable government.

That, in a nut-shell and a paragraph, is what it was about. Of course, there were some slides with facts and figures used with liberal licence, some Latin and Modern dancing and singer Alfred Ho to round up the evening of food and fund-raising.

Treat? DAP MP Fong Po Kuan underscoring the point that one does not feel safer in Malaysia what with the rapes and robberies despite the government promising to put in another RM6 billion to the police force.

Trick? DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng saying up to RM20 billion should be spent to beef up the force with personnel and equipment with an additional 100,000 to patrol the streets. Err, do we have the beginnings of a police state with a copper in every corner?

While we applaud Lim Guan Eng for his solution to the crime situation, we think he and his party should also put their collective minds to offering solutions to the myriad problems and not tell us what we already know.

What we don't know is what you will do once you get to power. And maybe you could also tell us if you are serious about Penang and provide the line-up contesting seats there.

Also north of country, the good people in Bangsa Malaysia are having a dinner for 200 people this Saturday November 3, 2007 for the sake of unity.

Treat? Dinner at RM10 and a chance for food and fraternity with some awesome speakers in Penang.

Trick? They need your identity card numbers and a bit of biography apart from the red note of RM10 before the invitation card is sent to you.

We wonder why. Is there no trust anymore even as we talk about unity? Isn't it time we take steps to unite people instead of asking them for identity cards and such. Where does it stop? Will there be racial quotas so that it actually looks like a Bangsa Malaysia dinner party?

Going on the theme of unity and adding on the layer of education, Bank Negara and players in the local financial industry are getting together to train those who are getting into banking, insurance, financial planning etc.

All fine with us. Good to have well-trained personnel and those who will move up according to meritocracy, all things being equal (a favourite economist phrase to say they don't actually know what will happen!)

Treat? The company - with a stash of funds from Bank Negara and the financial industry - has received applications from hundreds if not thousands of people who want to be trained for a future in the industry.

Trick? After setting high standards of acceptance, the company with prodding from a relative of a Cabinet Minister, is adjusting the minimum standard of acceptance to get more Bumiputeras into the training scheme.

Hey, what gives? What price meritocracy? It is this kind of thinking that keeps the Bumiputera on crutches and a subject derision and revulsion among Malaysians. They don't need the leg-up as those who have made it will always carry the stigma that they are there due to the ethnicity.

It is time that we stop bright sparks like these - from the government, opposition parties and well-meaning if possibly misguided people - from spewing ideas without thinking for Malaysia.

Integrity. Corruption.

Flip sides of the coin that envelopes those in power, be they politicians, judges, lawyers, policemen and civil servants, basically anyone with influence. We have had a few if not more over the years - those with integrity and those corrupt.

Commissioner Ramli Yusuf is the latest one under the spotlight, following the footsteps of cabinet ministers, a dodgy judiciary, and others whose actions are not on the straight and narrow.

Are those in the positions of leadership and power not infallible? Are they easily seduced by lucre? Where are the men and women who can withstand temptation and stick to principles and work according to their oath of office?

Are they extinct? What are the reasons and situations that have led to this poor state of affairs? Has the gestation period been so long or is this a recent phenomenon? Is this a result of Malaysia Inc. or just plain greed for those in power?

We don't know.

What we know is that after years of sweeping dirt under the carpet, of fast-tracking projects and fast-talking politicians, Malaysia is now tripping over the carpet and uncovering unimaginable filth.

Helping the poor, the bumiputera, the rakyat are just euphemisms of helping oneself to the till. That it has to stop, and stop now, is stating the obvious.

But the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) opines that beyond rhetoric and the watchmen, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi faces the Herculean task of cleaning the Stygian Stables of the corrupt that is endemic in the country.

We either help him or we get rid of him and put in people who can do that job.

We can do without the fuck-ups!

Ooops... Lalang!

Tomorrow October 27 - 20 years ago - 106 people lost their liberty and a couple of newspapers were shut down in what was infamously called Ops Lalang.

Those detained then - politicians and activists - will remember the occasion in a series of events tomorrow and among them will be one of those who precipitated Ops Lalang - Anwar Ibrahim who was then a rising star in UMNO and had held the post of Education Minister.

The other midwife for Ops Lalang was Najib Abdul Razak - who rallied support for Anwar when Chinese educationists protested against Anwar for insisting on placing non-Chinese-educated educationists in Chinese vernacular schools.

The situation came to a head and then Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad took advantage to round up political nemeses under the Internal Security Act in the eponymous operation.

But times have changed!

Anwar is now in the opposition and Najib is railing against Anwar. Both are like lalang - weeds -that wave according to the wind - with not much of a consistent platform or principles to live by.

And apparently both are options as future leaders of Malaysia to replace a rather somnambulant Abdullah Ahmad Badawi if we still remain cowed - then by Mahathir, now by mindset - that Malaysian leaders come from UMNO or its dissidents who return to the fold.

We in the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) believe that its time - so let's make it the anniversary of Ops Lalang - to move towards a leadership of the able and capable and not one of shit and shift!

So, let's keep the lalangs in the past!

From Bad to Worse?

Twenty years ago tonight, Malaysian Army private Adam Jaafar from the Ulu Kinta camp entered Kuala Lumpur's Chow Kit area and ran amok, killing a couple of people before he surrendered in daylight a day later.

There has been many a reason cited for his actions but events overtook that for nine days later, the Malaysian government carried out Ops Lalang which netted 106 citizens and closed down a couple of newspapers.

What's this got to do with what?

Absolutely nothing. Absolutely everything.

For that was just the day after the start of why we are where we are now.

We are still figuring out the country's failures among its success, debating whether a Malaysian who made it to space is an astronaut or a tourist and what it cost and profit the country, wondering whether the politicians or the civil service or both are doing a service or disservice to the nation.

There are parallels to what happened from 1987 to 1989 and what we are undergoing now, albeit in a compressed time moment.

Adam's actions lead to Ops Lalang within 1987 and later in 1988, an emboldened Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and a cowed nation oversaw the judiciary emasculated while in Burma, the military regime scythed through its citizens. Mahathir subsequently went through a heart bypass in 1989.

Fast forward to 2007 where there is no amoks or security operations but the judiciary again in a smaller disarray while Mahathir has again spent time under the surgeon's scalpel for a quadruple bypass. Burma, now Myanmar, has again cracked down on its citizens.

Ever thought about history repeating itself or parallels in time. George Santayana said those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.

Guess that is what is happening right now in Malaysia.

We have yet to move beyond that period in time and we are still circling to find solutions and move on.

From bad to worse?

Idle Fitri

Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, Idul Fitri, Eid Fitr whatever.

It was more of an idle Fitri for us over at the Siber Party of Malaysia (M). We started out just over a year ago and this is our 102nd post, so it is a time for a review of sorts.

Not too happeninglah. We have seen some great response and we have observed a lack of comments which we can only presume means most people agree with us.

And don't have the heart to tell us.

Or rather, they are not bothered with our sense of logic or proposals. Most likely what we think or write does not make sense or makes too much sense that they cannot even fathom what the hell we are prattling about.

No matter. We shall persevere. We shall continue. We shall be here. Still. though we might idle once in a while.

More importantly, we want to focus on solutions rather than whingeing or whining about the state of the nation and how terrible the situation is and could be. We want to solve them, we want to resolve them, we want a better Malaysia for all of us.

Is that too hard to achieve? Is that too idealistic to consider? Is that too ephemeral to reach?

We don't know! We know we will try. We want more than smoke and mirrors.

And that counts more than just idling about with vague or fuzzy concepts and philosophies.

Justice in the PM's Office

It was a dark and stormy... err day!

First, the police - in their congenital stupidity - tried to stop buses and private cars this morning from entering Putrajaya for the Walk with Justice march to protest and send a memorandum on the state of the Malaysian judiciary not least with exposure of a video on alleged judicial appointments conspiracy.

But that did not stop some 2,000 of us - most in de rigeur black and white - from walking from the Palace of Justice in the hot midday sun - like the March of the Penguins - into the rain outside the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya.

No, it didn't. Neither did the setting up of a three-man panel to investigate the authenticity of the video.

Be that as it may, it made me proud to see so many lawyers making their way to the Palace of Justice and walking down the entire avenue to the circus - in more ways than one - just before the Prime Minister's Office for the protest.

The funny part of course is that the lawyers were chanting "We Want Justice" in front of the Prime Minister's Office which I can only presume to mean that justice is wanting in the Palace of Justice.

Touche!

But the riot police - in their infinite wisdom and congenital stupidity again - decided to cordon off the entrance to the Prime Minister's Office, presenting the image of a government under siege from the multitude of Happy Feet that marched to the circus next to the mosque.

Well. the memo was sent while the rest of us were soaked to the bone, first drenched in sweat and later with rain, during the standoff between the riot police and the parade of lawyers and supporters, most of whom were also dressed in black and white.

With the rain, the riot police did not have to use their water cannons but it also cooled the white balloons that were meant to be released to symbolise justice. Maybe, it was just ice!

No matter. The lawyers made their point!

As for the Siber Party of Malaysia (M), we would like to put on record our support for a full inquiry into the matter and punishment for the guilty. That would be stating the obvious.

Also, we think the police should learn to just let things be. None of us there were security threats to the nation and the unnecessary show of force shows what a farce the police are.

Just remember, we are a democracy and have a right to assemble peacefully and say our piece. Whether in America or Malaysia!

Fuel Fools

Fuel Subsidies Unsustainable, Says Hassan Marican

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Petronas president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican warned today that paying out fuel subsidies is unsustainable over the long term as the skyrocketing global oil prices have made it inefficient to correct the economic imbalances they are meant to address.
He also hit out at some companies which exploit the gas price subsidised by Petronas to achieve cost savings and consequently their financial targets.
"Who are we subsidising? Can we continue to afford that? There will come a time when our country cannot subsidise so many things," he stressed.
Petronas is pushing for a hike in gas charges, as it is only charging RM6.40 per mmBtu (million British Thermal Units) to local industries since 1997 although the subsidised gas costs about RM40 per mmBtu.
"Indirectly, we are subsidising the world," he told an editors' briefing on the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) here.
Oil prices shot to an all-time high of above US$81 a barrel on Tuesday on concerns of a winter supply squeeze in the United States.
Hassan also said the amount of total subsidies, even excluding oil and gas, paid out by the government is already "horrendous."
Subsidised gas so far this year has cost Petronas some RM15 billion. Since 1997, the national oil corporation has provided close to RM50 billion in gas subsidy.
Subsidies given by the government to gas and petroleum should cost Petronas more than RM35 billion for the whole of this year.
Despite the high oil prices, he said, the margin has been squeezed due to escalating costs in extracting the commodity.
Hassan reasoned that the subsidised gasoline and diesel had actually benefited the rich people - They have three BMWs each and leave their air-conditioners on in their mansions all the time.
For gasoline, he said, at the existing price RM1.92 per litre, the actual price should be RM3 per litre.-- BERNAMA

Yes, world oil prices are on the up and up and we are paying pittance for it at the pump but it still costs us plenty from our tax ringgit. Not that many of us pay tax but for those who do, they are basically underwriting all that oil that is fuelling our vehicles and industries and utilities.

Time for us to wean ourselves from such subsidies.

Yes, we advocate fuel prices at real cost but vehicles sold without the additional taxes. At least then, the economy will not be that distorted and motorists will figure out the exact cost of owning and using a vehicle.

Heck, we will even include a fossil fuel tax incorporated in the pump price with that money going to ameliorate the effects of pollution in the environment.

And for taxi drivers and operators who want to raise flag rates and fares, even if gas prices do not go up, we agree but with the caveat of stricter enforcement to ensure that the taxis use the meters, are clean and taxi drivers courteous and willing to pick up all fares.

You want to make money but you have to follow the rules, that's what we say!

Also, stage buses and all other buses will have to be gas-powered to reduce the effect on the environment. Buses will have right of way in two lanes in any three-lane roads within any city limits during rush hour.

For those who are in cars during that time, too bad! Use mass transit systems instead!

Malaysia Money Makers

Selamat Hari Malaysia!

And though we in the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) issue this greeting with thoughts of furthering Malaysia's progress, other people just have ideas to make money at our collective expense.

First is the scheme called e-kesihatan, which both the medical authorities and those in the public transport sector have opposed with some pretty good reasons.

While all doctors are registered with the Malaysian Medical Council under the Ministry of Health, the Road Transport Department is also registering doctors for the scheme which has been privatised to Supremme Systems Sdn Bhd based in Petaling Jaya.

The e-kesihatan people promise a better method of medical checks which basically means a more comprehensive medical check up with the report being sent electronically to the road transport authorities.

This is to prevent cheating and collusion between those being checked and the medical personnel doing the checks. All fine, dandy and reasonable.

But why can't government hospitals do the checks?
Why do doctors need to register with the scheme? After all, all one needs is an internet connection to send the report.
Why does it need to be privatised?
And if so, how come the system was not put to public tender?

These are some of the questions we are asking. And we want the answers. Because land transport is a serious issue with the number of deaths and accidents on Malaysian roads.

After all, statistics show that an average of 17 people are killed on Malaysian roads daily.

So something has to be done. But not taking advantage of the situation for someone to make a bucketful of money out of it.

Second is the education loan scheme called the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) which disburses students loans through poor administration and not really getting back in repayments.

While the authorities sort that out - and that will take time, the altruistic idea of giving student loans has actually spurred the growth of private education in Malaysia and hence the need for a Ministry of Higher Education.

With some 515 private institutions of higher learning in 2006, which is actually down from 790 in 2001 mainly due to competition, our taxpayers' money is going to underwrite all these students who are unable to get places in public universities.

Well and good. The question is, do these institutions have qualified academic staff and facilities to educate the aspiring graduates in many fields specifically engineering, medicine, nursing and others.

Why? Because those who graduate will have to pay their loans but might not have the requisite qualifications that they signed up for due to shoddy education. And the only ones making money from this will be the private institutions.

The authorities need to check on these institutions and ensure they have good staff and facilities as we have no trust in having too many medical, engineering or nursing colleges. They might have the paper qualifications but the real world requires more than that.

After all, what kind of Malaysia do we want? A good one on paper or a great one in the real world?

Sesetengah je yang kata, yang lain kata ia haram lagi boleh membawa banyak istighfar!

Begitulah agaknya pendapat penduduk Malaysia, selalunya ekstrim melulu.

Cuba kita lihat dengan harga barang-barang hari ini.

Harga-harga barangan keperluan dikawal seperti gula, ayam, susu pekat manis dan lain-lain menyebabkan harga barangan tersebut berada di paras tidak sebenar (artificial prices).

Pada yang masa yang sama, masyarakat Malaysia menpunyai paras penyakit kencing manis yang penyakit jantung yang membimbangkan.

Di SiPM, kami amat hairan mengapa pihak kerajaan harus memberi subsidi dengan mengawal harga makanan supaya rakyat Malaysia boleh membinasakan diri sendiri dengan penyakit 'middle-class'?

Baik kita jangan kawal harga gula, barulah rakyat akan sedar untuk makan gula dengan tidak berlebihan.

Rakyat mempunyai keperluan gula yang ekstrim, kerajaan BN memberi polisi untuk memuaskan pengundi dengan polisi ekstrim, SiPM pula memberi cadangan alternatif yang ekstrim.

Malaysia Boleh!

Baru-baru ini terdapat pula tanda-tanda bahawa kerajaan BN sudah mula sedar polisi ekstrim mengawal harga membebankan negara.

Contoh terbaru ialah kerajaan sedang mengkaji untuk memansuhkan subsidi diesel kerana khuatir harga minyak yang kian melambung, subsidi tersebut akan memakan peruntukan untuk pembangunan.

Jika SiPM diundi, bukan saja diesel malah subsidi petrol juga akan kami mansuhkan.

Tetapi jangan khuatir.

SiPM akan peka dengan kehendak rakyat supaya penarikan subsidi tersebut tidak akan membebankan mereka.

Rangka-rangka ekonomi terperinci akan kami umumkan sebelum pilihanraya.

Kalau itu adalah satu langkah yang yang berani oleh kerajaan BN, untuk memansuhkan subsidi, lain pula cerita harga ayam.

Pada mulanya kerajaan BN ingin meneruskan kempen pra-pilihanraya dengan bercita-cita untuk menurun harga kawalan untuk ayam dari RM6.70 sekilo ke RM5.60.

Tindakan Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri Dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna yang mendadak itu telah menimbulkan perasaan tidak puas hati Persatuan Dealer Ayam Perak.

Apabila cita-cita mat jenin Kerajaan BN untuk meneruskan kempen pra-pilihanraya itu tidak kesampaian apabila kementerian menarik balik keputusan tersebut.

Sudahlah jangan kita mengawal harga.

Jika pemborong dengan sengaja menyimpan stok supaya harga akan melambung tinggi, kita sudah ada peruntukan undang-undang untuk menghukum mereka.

Kita hanya perlu pastikan bahawa negara kita tercinta mempunyai barangan keperluan harian secukupmya pada bila-bila masa.

Barulah umat Islam di negara kita boleh membuka puasa macam jaguh!

Keeping Malaysia Healthy

Keeping Malaysia healthy, in more ways than one, is proving to be quite a task.

While we won't yet go into details of the proposed 2008 budget announced by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, suffice to say a few points - if not all - is being hotly contested by various parties.

One that has been a pet peeve of the Parti Sosialis Malaysia and their ilk - front organisations which are fronted by them anyway - is the implementation of the full paying patient scheme announced in the 2008 Budget.

To sum up their arguments, those against the scheme say, inter-alia, medical specialists fail to turn up for duty due to exhaustion after spending hours treating private patients; doctors preferring to spend time with private patients rather than government-subsidised patients; hospitals being money-making concerns; eventual privatisation of government hospitals; and government's sacred duty to provide health care for all.

Right. The reality is of course, the ruling coalition is proposing the FPP scheme to start January 1 2008 despite a pilot six-month scheme in the Selayang and Putrajaya hospitals that began August 1, 2007. Also, a similar scheme was launched four years ago in two teaching hospitals - University Malaya Specialist Centre (UMSC) and Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Okay, let's cut the disingenuous designs of those opposed to the scheme. The scheme will allow the civil service, and by extension the government, to retain the best and brightest medical talents to be used for all patients - poor and rich.

Otherwise, the poor will have to just do with doctors and specialists without much experience. Don't even think of paying them more to keep them as private healthcare centres are willing to pay more - whether in Malaysia or abroad.

One more thing, doctors are not so greedy or hard up for money that they won't treat all patients in government facilities. The fact that they are staying back in government service speak volumes for their dedication.

Also, the full paying patients in UMSC get full treatment after office hours as most specialists conduct their clinics then, after ward rounds and lectures in teaching hospitals. Also, the more specialists get to practise their skills, the better for all patients - rich or poor. Those in private practise might charge more but do not have many cases to be consulted on, and possibly have less experience especially for surgical cases.

As for the government's duty to provide healthcare, I know from personal experience that we are getting more than good treatment in government hospitals than others, such as foreigners, are getting.

Foreigners have to pay many more times than a Malaysian has to pay, for such things as broken limbs and other ailments. And even those who go for cardiac surgery pay less than those who opt for private care.

If the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) were to run the government, we would definitely extend the scheme to all hospitals to ensure we retain the best and brightest and to provide the best possible healthcare to all Malaysians.

Any other scheme will have to do the same.

Having said that, we were quite amused to read in Mentera's favourite online comic that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) held a forum on the proposed 2008 budget with only 20 attendees, but all agreeing that it was not a budget for all.

The party, has of course, proposed its own budget with some good ideas. We praise when it is good, you know! But of course they would not agree to the government's budget, no opposition party worth its stripes or salt would.

We will present some aspects of what we think any budget will need to make Malaysia, and in our case, Kuala Lumpur, better.

Meanwhile, if you are still interested in budgets, take a load of this.

UPDATE: Here's another letter opposing the full paying patient scheme with some of the tired old arguments. Guess doctors get shtick for just getting what they get while everyone expects reasonable or is it unreasonable rates for treatment.

The way I see it, better for patients who can afford it to pay for reasonable rates in government hospitals and thus enabling the government to invest in better facilities that can be enjoyed by all.

Let's face it, healthcare is expensive.

You break an arm and it might require to metal plates that each cost three hundred ringgit, a better option than plaster casts as recovery is faster. It is virtually free if you are a Malaysian but not if you are a foreigner.

So, think about it.

Walaupun memang terjadi persitiwa tersebut, alangkah baiknya jika kerajaan Barisan Nasional dapat mecari ilham dari titah nasihat Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku untuk tidak mempolitikan sambutan kemerdekaan kita.

Mungkin pada masa yang akan datang, dengan titah nasihat Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku, penyambutan kemerdekaan negara kita boleh menjadi lebih sempurna dengan memperagakan tema-tema yang lebih miripkan masyarakat dan politik majmuk negara kita.

We might have our differences on politics, philosophies and parties but at least we can do it in our own independent country, Malaysia.

We are all Malaysians and what unites us is our diversity and our affection for each and everyone of us as Malaysians.

We might have different skin colour, creed, religion or race but we all bleed red.

So fight, poke, criticise, lambast, debate, duel, challenge, castigate, grumble, mumble, complain, groan, moan, whinge and whine. That is part of the Malaysian experience.

Otherwise, life would be a bit dull with only Malaysian food, fauna and flora for company.

Islamic State of Mind

So what is Malaysia? Depending on what you read, it is either an Islamic state or Islamic state of mind.

Well, just 50 years after Malaya declared Merdeka and then six years later forming Malaysia, we are now spending time defining our nation, rather than trying to fix whatever that is broken or wrong, and there is plenty of that.

What current prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had done earlier, as his Najib Abdul Razak also did, is to mouth the position and idea from their ruling coalition which might not be the reality that is Malaysia.

But it is their reality.

What we can do to change their reality and make Malaysia just Malaysia, secular with no religious or theocratic pretensions, is to vote in a government that can share that vision.

Yes. Stop arguing with them and just vote them out. Vote the Siber Party of Malaysia (M) instead.

We stand, and for most times, also sit, for a Malaysia that is for all Malaysians governed by democratic principles and parlimentary democracy where all constituencies are equal in the number of voters and with three tiers of governance ie. federal, state and local councils.

Vote for us. Unlike the current crop of politicians, we like to think we are a chip of the old blocks that built Malaya and Malaysia.

And despite what our detractors say, and of course we defend their right to say what they want to say (it is a free country in the internet anyway), we want to share something that could shed some light into why they do what they do.

A Saudi couple, Ahmed and Layla, preparing for their wedding, meet with their Mullah for counselling.

The Mullah asks if they have any last questions before they leave.

Pertentangan yang kita saksikan di seluruh dunia bukanlah pertentangan antara ugama ataupun pertentangan antara tamadun.

Ia adalah pertentangan antara dua pihak yang berlawanan, pertentangan antara dua era.

Ia adalah pertentangan antara mentaliti Zaman Kelam dan mentaliti abad ke 21.

Ia adalah pertentangan antara dunia bertamadun dan dunia jahil, pertentangan antara keganasan dan kerasionalan, pertentangan antara kebebasan dan opressi, di antara demokrasi dan pemerintahan diktator.

Ia adalah pertentangan antara pembelaan hak asasi dan pencabulan hak asasi.

Ia adalah pertentangan antara mereka yang menganiaya wanita seperti binatang, dan mereka yang menghormati wanita sebagai insan.

Apa yang kita lihat hari ini bukanlah pertentangan antara tamadun.

Tamadun tidah saling tentang-menentang.

Mereka saling bersaing.

Orang Islamlah yang memulakan penggunaan istilah "pertentangan antara tamadun" dengan berluasa.

Orang Islamlah yang pertama memulakan pertentangan tamadun ini.

Nabi Islam telah bersabda:

"Saya telah di arah untuk memerangi mereka sehigga mereka percaya kepada Allah dan RasulNya"

Apabila orang Islam membahagikan manusia kepada yang Muslim dan bukan Muslim, dan memerangi orang lain sehingga memaksa orang lain mempercayai apa yang mereka (orang Muslim) percaya, orang Islamlah yang telah memulakan pertentangan ini, yang memulaka perperangan ini.

Untuk memberhentikan perperangan ini, mereka harus memeriksa semula kitab-kitab Islam mereka dan segala bimbingan mereka yang penuh dengan laungan takfir (mengisytiharkan orang kafir kerana perbezaan pendapat) dan untuk berperang dengan orang kafir.

Teman sekerja saya berkata bahawa dia tidak pernah menyinggung kepercayaan orang lain.

Tetapi tamadun apakah yang membenarkan untuk mereka memanggil orang lain dengan istilah-istilah yang orang lain tidak dapat memilih dengan sendiri?

Kadangkala mereka di panggil Ahli Dhimmi, kadangkala mereka dipanggil "Ahlul Kitab", tetapi kadang kadang mereka di bandingkan dengan monyet dan babi, atau dia memanggil orang Kristain, "mereka yang akan dilaknatkan oleh Allah".

Siapa yang memberitahu kamu bahawa mereka adalah "Ahlul Kitab"?

Mereka bukan Ahlul-Kitab, mereka adalah Ahli-ahli dari pelbagai kitab.

Semua buku-buku sains yang kamu guna hari ini adalah buku-buku mereka, hasil buah fikiran mereka yang bebas dan kreatif.

Siapa yang memberi hak kepada mereka untuk mengistilahkan orang lain sebagai "mereka yang akan dilaknatkan oleh Allah" atau "mereka yang sesat" dan selepas itu datang kesini dan berkata agama kamu menyuruh kamu untuk tidak menyinggung kepercayaan orang lain?

Kamu boleh percayakan kepada batu asalkan kamu tidak membaling batu itu kearah saya.

Kamu boleh memuja apa jua yang kamu mahu puja tetapi kepercayaan orang lain bukanlah untuk kamu merasa khuatir, jika mereka percaya bahawa Al Masih itu adalah tuhan anak Mariam ataupun Al Masih itu adalah syaitan anak Mariam.

Biarlah mereka dengan kepercayaan mereka.

Orang Yahudi telah merana dengan tragedi Holocaust dan telah memaksa dunia untuk menghormati mereka dengan ilmu mereka bukan dengan keganasan mereka, dengan kerja-kerja mereka dan bukan dengan tangisan atau teriakan mereka.

Tamadun manusia berhutang dengan orang Yahudi kerana kebanyakan penemuan dan sains abad ke 19 dan ke 20 adalah titik hasil saintis Yahudi.

15 juta orang, bertaburan di seluruh dunia, bersatu dan telah menang dengan berkerja, dengan ilmu mereka.

Kita tidak pernah lihat seorang Yahudipun meletupkan dirinya didepan sebuah restoran Jerman.

Kita belom lagi lihat seorang Yahudi yang memusnahkankan gereja.

Kita belom lagi lihat orang Yahudi yang memprotes dengan membunuh orang.

Orang Muslim sudah membinasakan 3 patung Bhudda. Tetapi kita belom lagi lihat penganut Bhudda memusnahkan masjid-masjid, membunuh orang Muslim atau pun membakar kedutaan-kedutaan.

Hanya orang Islam membela agama mereka dengan membakar gereja, membunuh orang dan memusnahkan kedutaan-kedutaan.

Jalan ini pasti tidak akan membuahkan apa-apa hasil.

Orang Muslim patut tanya mereka sendiri apa yang mereka boleh buat untuk membantu Tamadun Manusia, sebelom mereka meminta dunia untuk menghormati mereka.

MERDEKA - What have you done for it lately?

We are in that phase of time - patriotism, perversion, politics, pessimism, posturing, and pretence - as we hurtle to celebrating, if that is the word, Malaysia's 50th year of independence.

Yes, we are an independent nation. But not free.

Not free from the shackles of racialism, rhetoric and revisionism in our history as a nation. What have we done for Merdeka, unlike our forefathers who fought for it - whether in the battlefield or the boardrooms in London.

Case in point. The Merdeka Statement launched last week by non-government organisations on social liberties and equal opportunities under the Malaysian sun. With a number of salient points that have been presented over the years, the statement is milestone or a millstone, depending on your point of view, in Malaysia's history.

But of course, in an era where we demand and defend our shrinking democratic space, there is opposition to the statement, with Muslim groups saying it is tantamount to renegotiating the social contract and validating apostasy.

That there was a rebuttal to the Merdeka Statement launched by a government minister, either from the Muslim groups or by another minister, is entirely well within democratic parameters.

I would have been disappointed if there was none or for the Muslim groups to say it is just a proposal from one group. Duh! Just like their proposals too are just from a group.

Get real! Of course all the proposals are from groups with vested interests in maintaining or expanding their points of view as the idea is to ventilate the viewpoints in the court of public opinion.

At the very least, it shows the positions of the groups that now appear to be arrayed against each other and their view of what Malaysia should be now and in the future.

I would just want Malaysia to be Malaysia - unity in diversity with everyone having a place and space in the country, be it in Peninsular Malaysia or Borneo.

For that, we have to stand and be counted against any forces that want to pigeon hole us as a theocratic state or impose a way of life alien to the nation. We are a secular nation despite state-sanctioned succour or state-sponsored salvation in mosques that dot the country.

Secular. That's it. Plain and simple.

Now, what have you done for it lately?

It's Always About the Money Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim!

Today's Star reported Shahidan saying

“On the other hand, getting professionals to head the associations might not be easy. Some of them are only interested in the money”

as he defended how great the world would be if politicians headed sports organisations.

"However, he challenged anyone to prove to him that any sports association in Malaysia had suffered from having the leadership of a political figure, " the Star reported.

“Our presence has always brought stability to the association concerned. We have never destroyed the sport, we advanced it.”

Firstly Datuk Seri Shahidan, how have you 'advanced' the Malaysian Amateur Athletics Union?

Won any Olympic Gold Medals lately? Or even Asian games gold medals? Hmmmm... maybe not!

The good thing about having professionals who are interested in the money is about bringing in more money into the sports. Ultimately deserving sportsmen/women need to be paid adequately and be provided with top notch facilities.

And there is the other good thing about professionals who are only interested in the money - once they don't perform we can kick them out!

Unperforming politicians? Well... it just gets political... heehee!

But isn't politics is also about the money?

And maybe that's why politicians stay in sports associations? To get more money, money money! ;)

Islamic State Deja vu

I woke up today and read the today's news on the net.

"The prime minister called for a stop to the polemic of whether Malaysia was an Islamic or secular country.
He said Malaysia was not a secular or theocratic country but one which was based on parliamentary democracy."

There's nothing quite like waking up with a sense of deja vu.

Just maybe one of the 4th floor boys read our post on Islamic state and decided to prep their big boss with the same points.

If so SiPM should sue them for copyright infringement or at the very least, well, be compensated! :)

But then again, some people already think we are the 4th Floor! ;)

But Khairy, is it really because of Anwar?

Or maybe you were upset that sometime in 2005 your other American and Jewish friends, Merill Lynch, downgraded Malaysia's investment rating after their investment banking's side helped organise an international roadshow headed by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to promote the country in London and New York as an investment haven?

So what is the real beef Khairy?

Is it Halal or is it Kosher? ;)

Yesterday, as Jeff Ooi launched his political career, he dumfounded everybody again by saying:

The quote has resulted in SiPM translation servers to crash several times. Even after cold reboot, the servers were unable to restart. Backups from previously successful restarts had to be deployed.

As such SiPM will be depending on the services of Mentera Institute of Learning Foundation for Political Research On Nationalism (MILF-PRON) for translation.

Other 3rd party vendors say that it will require a sizeable cluster fo cray computers 12 years to compute the translation.

Are we lying to ourselves about our country, nation, state, whatever?

In our 50th year of existence under the crescent, star and stripes, some if not a lot of things have gone awry.

Before I go on, I rue the loss of two words that used to sum up Malaysia.

Muhibbah.

Gotong-royong.

Yes, the muhibbah is missing, folks. So is gotong-royong. Haven't seen those words in the daily lexicon for years and I expect they are all but extinct now. Not even endangered but completely lost from use.

Don't let the people in power tell you otherwise. When was the last time they, if not you, used those words.

Be that as it may, the loss of those Malaysian words and concepts come at a time when Malaysia's economy is humming along with more projects across the nation and people gettin parochial and vested individual interests and rights take centrestage.

Islamic state, you say? That debate and declaration has been going on for years with naught to show for the attributes that make up an Islamic nation ie. integrity, truthfulness, cleanliness, neighbourliness, fairness etc.

Instead, we just have the morality police, the faith restoration centres, the halal hubs - which also covers the enforcement personnel who insist on people declaring coffee money halal - that appear to make up an Islamic state.

We think it is more an Islamic state of mind! Just another bare-faced lie.

On the other side, we have fellow citizens who think blogging defines life and anyone who blogs and is detained by the authorities means a crackdown on bloggers. Well, get a life and don't lie about your importance to the world.

We are all tiny cogs in the wheel of life and we could do better than put a spanner in the works for Mr Raja Petra Kamaruddin and his entertaining stories.

Sweet little lies by all and sundry.

To quote Abraham Lincoln - "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time."
